chapter 22
Lu Li stopped half a meter away from Bosi. “Today’s stack of documents is only half as tall as yesterday’s. Looks like it’s not as busy today. That’s a good thing.”
Bosi closed the file, glanced around the room, his face dark.
Game Night had arrived, and he was summoned to Lu Li’s room once again.
“Do I look happy to you?”
He still hadn’t found a way to break the binding with Lu Li.
For as long as he could remember, this was the least efficient thing he’d ever done.
Today was also a nightmare for the Developer, supervisor, R&D team, and testing team of the entire Necromancer Game in the Underworld.
Even a hundred years later, they would still recall the Underworld King’s face today-darker than the abyss itself.
The Underworld King, who had always ignored the Necromancer Game and managed it with a laissez-faire attitude, suddenly came for an inspection, reviewed all the Necromancer Game’s documents, opened the database sealed for years, as if determined to dig up something from the depths of the game.
In the end, the Underworld King left empty-handed and coldly said, “With so many bugs in the game, what do you do at work every day?”
Thus, the Necromancer Game, once hailed as the Underworld’s civil service, became the representative of demonic 996 overnight.
–
“So I can’t die today either?” Lu Li’s disappointment was obvious. He asked suspiciously, “Did you study properly during the day?”
A black leather glove held a vial of crystal blue liquid and placed it on the table.
“Drink it.” Bosi pushed the liquid toward Lu Li.
The strongest Poison in the Underworld-just one drop could dissolve a vengeful spirit.
He had refined a whole vial for Lu Li.
Lu Li’s eyes lit up. He picked up the Poison and drank it all in one go.
He shook the empty vial at Bosi.
“Not a drop left.”
Lu Li was silent for a moment, then asked, “How do I feel now?”
Logically, the Poison should take effect as soon as it touched the body. Now, nearly a minute had passed, and Lu Li was still looking at him, full of energy.
“Cool and a little spicy.” Lu Li licked his lips. “What is this?”
Bosi snatched the empty vial, casually drew a Teleportation Array, and threw the vial into it as if it were trash.
“It’s useless.”
“What did you do all day?” Lu Li sounded aggrieved. “I worked really hard in the game to make it to tonight as quickly as possible.”
Bosi paused, looking at Lu Li. “It’s your unique constitution. Every method I’ve tried should have been fatal.”
Lu Li: “When I entered the game, didn’t it promise I could fulfill my wish?”
“That was the game’s promise to you.” Bosi distanced himself. “When your Points reach the value needed to realize your wish, maybe it really will come true.”
“If I find a new way to die, I’ll let you know.”
Lu Li was satisfied. “Alright, I can wait.”
“If you really can’t die, you can also quit the game and return to your Original World.” Bosi had visited the Necromancer Game Headquarters today and gained a more detailed understanding of the game.
The Necromancer Game actually allows Players to quit, but it requires the consent of the bound Evil Spirit, along with a bunch of harsh additional conditions.
So far, no Player has ever successfully exited the Necromancer Game.
But Lu Li’s situation was different.
Bosi tempted Lu Li, “If you quit the game, as compensation, I promise to give you enough reward to take back to your Original World.”
“I’m not going back,” Lu Li refused flatly. “The way you’ve set up the Necromancer Game is pretty interesting. I really like it here.”
Bosi frowned and held out his palm to Lu Li. “Give me your hand.”
He’d always only heard the Audience call the Necromancer Game thrilling and fun-no Player had ever said so themselves.
Which instance had Lu Li entered earlier that day?
“Have you thought of a new way to die?” Lu Li obediently leaned against Bosi, his pale, slender hand placed in the man’s palm.
The black gloves weren’t thick; they fit Bosi’s hand perfectly, making his hand look especially powerful.
Lu Li’s hand was a size smaller, his slender wrist resting on top. The black and white contrast was striking.
Bosi tightened his grip slowly, his fingertips touching the Wristband.
He was seized by the strange illusion that Lu Li was unusually fragile and soft, as if he would break with a single squeeze.
“I’m checking what you experienced in the game during the day.”
The serpent-shaped Wristband gave off a dim glow, its snake eyes dark and deep.
Within a few seconds, he finished reviewing the whole day. “There was only one bug in the D Grade Instance, and you triggered it; it had been closed for more than ten years before you opened it.”
Lu Li was surprised. “Is the bug really that serious? It hasn’t been fixed for over a decade?”
Bosi glanced at the half-open file on the table, which happened to be the report from today’s Game Test Team for the Necromancer Game.
From the D Grade Instance upwards, every level has at least one Bug Instance. During the Public Beta Period, problems were detected, but repairs never succeeded. Sometimes they seemed fixed, but reopening them would bring about even scarier issues, so these instances were sealed off.
But yesterday, all the Bug Instances malfunctioned. The Game Test Team couldn’t shut them down, and Players began pouring in, exposing these Bug Instances to the Audience.
A 100% fatality rate made the Audience irritable, leading them to question the game’s original intent.
Some in the Underworld Media stirred up public opinion, claiming the Necromancer Game had forgotten its roots and was just trying to gather the Audience’s Spirit Money. That’s why there were so many instances that no Player could escape from or complete, triggering a flood of negative reviews.
Bosi said, “We can’t fix it because we can’t identify the source of the malfunction. You’re quite good at playing the game, so it’s the perfect time for you to help us find the loopholes.”
Lu Li stared at Bosi’s face. The man’s features were more striking and handsome than anyone he’d ever seen, with a high, straight nose, and a sense of coldness and restraint.
Before, the long hood of the black robe had blocked his view, making it hard to see clearly.
Now that he was sitting close, he could see Bosi’s face clearly for the first time, and realized the pleasant scent he’d noticed after entering the room was coming from Bosi himself.
He looked at Bosi seriously and quietly, the unique texture of the gloves on his wrist rubbing lightly, sending a shiver down his spine like a jolt of electricity.
A subtle dampness spread from the depths of his soul.
Lu Li’s pupils contracted. He ran his tongue along his teeth.
Thump, thump-
It was his heart beating.
Bosi noticed him spacing out and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Lu Li let out an ‘Oh’ and said, “You’ve been holding my hand for a while. My arm’s a bit sore.”
He wondered, what was this feeling, his heart tightening and pounding so hard?
Earlier that day, Luo Jia Bai had taught him about an emotion: anger.
Was this anger?
Bosi let go of his hand and asked, “Did you hear what I just said?”
