chapter 101
The Points Shop had two types of options, separated into different categories.
Under [Clothing] were accessories with animal features that you could put on or take off at any time.
They were cheap-just a few hundred Points to redeem.
Under [Appearance], however, the changes were applied directly to your own body. The duration of use varied by item, and the prices were divided into different tiers. Every [Appearance] option had a minimum tier of twelve hours.
Those were expensive. Even the lowest tier cost 2,000 Points. The longer durations of one day, three days, and seven days stacked the Points cost higher and higher.
Lu Li’s fingertip hovered on the redeem button, hesitating between the two options.
Twelve hours.
Game Night was about to start. If he redeemed something from [Appearance], wouldn’t he be stuck using it all the way through facing Bosi?
But the product display images in [Clothing] looked so fake.
Would it look even faker worn on his head?
The [Appearance] display images even came with animated previews. When tapped open, the model rotated 360 degrees, and the ears and tails swayed realistically, as if they were real.
What would the redeemed item actually look like?
Lu Li’s hands itched.
He had never seen anything fluffy in person.
He really wanted to touch one.
“Go with accessories. Cheap and practical.” Luo Jia Bai had already redeemed and equipped a set of puppy-themed items. He complained:
“The whole [Appearance] category is overpriced trash. Look at the redemption count below-limited! Each type can only be redeemed ten times a day. The cat and dog ones are almost sold out as soon as you open them! I have no idea why Players who got into the Necromancer Game would waste their precious Points on this garbage! There are so many better things to spend Points on. And in the end, the effects are basically the same as the accessories anyway. Whoever uses the [Appearance] category is an idiot!”
Nearby, a Player had already redeemed an accessory and finished putting it on.
“My eyesight is bad.” The cat on the right leaned his long staff against the side and stretched out a hand to touch the Player’s head.
“Let me feel it… hmm?”
His hand settled on the cat ears-and the moment he touched them, he noticed something was wrong.
His fist clenched, and muscles exploded across his Arm with a sharp crackle.
The cat’s pupils narrowed into vicious vertical slits.
He suddenly ripped the accessory off the Player’s head and, without the slightest mercy, tore away a small tuft of the Player’s hair as well. “You’re lying to me!?”
The cat on the left screamed along with him, “It’s fake!”
“Those aren’t real ears! You don’t have ears! Are you trying to disguise yourselves as non-humans, sneak into the world of happiness, and steal our already scarce Crowns of Happiness!? Kill them!”
As soon as the cat finished speaking, every Player’s Wristband chimed with new Instance information:
[Instance Game Name: Seeking the Crown of Happiness]
[Clearance Guide: Enter the world of happiness and compete for the coveted Crown of Happiness. While everyone else tears each other apart, I can offer you a shortcut: climb. Climb upward. Reach the very top, and you’ll see the entire world of happiness at a glance. Only then will you obtain the true Crown of Happiness and clear the Instance smoothly.]
The Player whose hair had been torn out sat on the ground, clutching his head in terror. He hurriedly opened his Wristband, trying to switch to an [Appearance] item, but the cat’s fur had already bristled up into needle-like spikes. Hunched over, he charged.
The claws dragging along the floor grew longer and longer, throwing off sparks as they scraped the ground.
Another male Player dressed in white suddenly stepped out and blocked the cat’s path.
The cat’s sharp claws raked across his face.
A crisp sound rang out.
A Life-Saving Item shattered.
The man in white spoke as he leaned in, offering the ears on his head to the cat. “You touched one and decided the rest of us aren’t non-humans? Why don’t you touch mine too, just to be sure?”
The cat skeptically reached out and touched him, then exchanged a look with the other cat.
“This one’s real.”
The Player whose hair had been yanked out took advantage of the lull to swap out his Appearance as well. He proactively leaned toward the cat again.
“I was just messing with you earlier and you actually believed me-and got mad. Take another look now. It’s real this time, right?”
After the cat touched him, its eyes crossed even more severely than before, with an added layer of confusion it couldn’t quite make sense of.
“Also real.”
Hearing the cat’s confirmation, several Players let out a sigh of relief.
“Xia Le! You actually used a Life-Saving Item on me!” The Player was still shaken, thanking Xia Le over and over for stepping in to save him. “You asked me earlier if I wanted to join your team, right? I’m in!”
They had found a way to clear the stage.
The Players hurried to imitate them.
“Hurry up. Change your Appearance.” Luo Jia Bai urged Lu Li and Mirella as well. But when he opened the Shop, he froze.
“Wait…what is this?” He was baffled. Just a minute ago, there had clearly been two or three cat and dog Appearances left. How had they all turned into zero the moment he opened the Shop?
Only the Rabbit option remained.
That soft, white, fluffy look really didn’t go with his increasingly muscular body.
“To build up my strength, I’ve been working out every night during Game Night. I even redeemed two dumbbells,” he muttered as he redeemed the Rabbit Appearance anyway. When he looked up and saw the ears on Mirella’s head, he was stunned. “Why didn’t you pick the Rabbit?”
She’d actually chosen dog ears?
Mirella said, “Suddenly don’t want anything white.”
Cats and Rabbits were both white.
Only dogs were brown.
Luo Jia Bai opened his mouth, then closed it again, at a loss for words.
All at once, his head felt heavy, like someone was tugging on him from behind.
He turned, only to come face-to-face with Lu Li’s hand still gripping his ear.
Luo Jia Bai: ?
“What are you doing?”
Caught red-handed, Lu Li didn’t look the least bit guilty. He simply changed tactics and openly started feeling up the Rabbit ears.
“So soft. So much fur. It’s my first time touching them.”
He thought for a moment, then said to Luo Jia Bai, “We’ve got twelve hours. Once we go in, I’ll still want to touch them. How about I transfer you some Points in return?”
–
The two cats finished checking every Player.
They stepped aside to left and right, revealing the large door behind them.
“There are no humans among you. Please, go in!”
From the widening crack of the slowly opening door, warm air and golden light spilled outward.
Before stepping through, Lu Li turned back to look at the two cats standing at the entrance.
Only from behind could he see that the cat on the left had a broken tail.
The cat on the right was cross-eyed.
They both had flaws.
–
Inside the door, countless flyers drifted through the sky. One sheet stuck directly to Lu Li’s face.
He reached up and pulled the flyer off. Written on it was:
“[The world of happiness welcomes you!]”
“[Here, you can realize one ultimate wish of your own!]”
“[Don’t you want to *********?!]”
The final line had been scribbled over.
He held it up to the light, but still couldn’t make out what the original words underneath had been.
