Chapter 30
Chapter 30
“Is the wound infected?” Chu Yue asked when he saw that Zhao Sinan hadn’t moved or spoken.
Zhao Sinan stared blankly at his shoulder. Infected? My ass. Was he blind, or was that skin perfectly smooth?
Who the hell has a chunk of flesh bitten off their body, only for the skin to look as good as new four or five days later?
His gaze shifted instantly. “Old Chu, let me ask you a question.”
“Ask.”
“What kind of monster did you transform from?”
Chu Yue found the question baffling and shot him a sidelong glance. “Stop talking nonsense.”
“No…” Zhao Sinan slapped his shoulder, the sound crisp. “Look at this, look! Does it hurt? Old Chu, if you’re not a monster, then I must have concocted a divine medicine. It’s healed! Completely healed! There isn’t even a scar.”
Chu Yue frowned and remained silent.
A moment later, he pulled up his shirt and buttoned it. “Don’t tell anyone about this.”
Zhao Sinan nodded solemnly. “Old Chu, your cheat code has arrived. When you make it big in the future, don’t forget your brother.”
“What?”
“You.” Zhao Sinan was incredibly serious. “The chosen one, a hero, a world-saving superman.”
Chu Yue looked at him for a moment before kicking him out. “Instead of reading that useless trash all day, you should spend more time looking at medical books.”
Save the world?
Chu Yue curled his lip.
Don’t make me laugh. He couldn’t even save one person; where would he get the ability to save 1.4 billion?
As for the change in his shoulder, he suspected it had something to do with the Nightmare Trading Center.
During dinner, no one enjoyed their meal except for Chu Yue and Elder Chu.
After a shower, Chu Yue felt a sense of relief wash over his body.
Leaning against the headboard, he finally remembered to search for the Nightmare Trading Center online.
However, no matter which browser he used, the search results were unsatisfactory.
It was possible that the Players had a relatively private forum, or perhaps the System didn’t allow them to spread this information.
He did, however, find a vague, ambiguous comment under a Weibo post.
Following the ID from that comment, Chu Yue was just about to send a private message to inquire further when he heard a commotion outside.
He hadn’t intended to pay it any mind, but when he heard someone shout “ghost,” Chu Yue’s brow twitched, and he got out of bed.
The one making a scene outside was his stepmother, who was currently acting hysterical at her bedroom door.
Chu Yanting was trying to persuade her, but she refused to go inside no matter what.
“There’s a ghost! There’s a ghost in the room! I’m not going in, I’m not sleeping in this room!”
With her making such a fuss, almost everyone came out to see what was happening.
“What nonsense are you talking about!”
“I’m not talking nonsense!” the woman’s voice was shrill. “There really is a ghost!”
She trembled all over, unable to stop her fear as she recalled the scene she had just witnessed.
After dinner, she had started losing her temper at Chu Yanting as soon as they returned to their room.
It was for no other reason than the fact that her son had been beaten like that, yet his father hadn’t said a single word to demand justice.
Chu Yanting was also very impatient.
Those three words were basically a taboo in their house, and it was Chu Lian’s own fault for being a foul-mouthed brat and provoking Chu Yue.
Moreover, they were at the old man’s place.
He had been lectured plenty of times back then because of that incident, and now it had been brought up again today.
Seeing that he was unmoved, the two argued a bit more about the matter.
So angry she didn’t want to speak to him anymore, the woman went straight into the bathroom.
Who would have thought that as soon as she opened the bathroom door, she would see a woman sitting on the toilet?
Her mind went blank. She was just about to scream at Chu Yanting for daring to hide a person in their room when she saw the woman give her a weird smile. Then, the woman’s head rolled off with a thud, rolling straight to her feet.
She shrieked and bolted out of the room.
That head followed her the whole way, finally coming to rest at the bedroom door, its eyes staring straight at her.
Chu Yanting tried to pull her back into the room, unaware that in the woman’s eyes, the severed head was spinning around Chu Yanting’s feet.
The image was beyond bizarre.
When had she ever seen such a scene? Seeing the woman grinning at her again, she couldn’t hold on any longer. Her eyes rolled back, and she fainted on the floor.
Chu Yue stood at his door, watching the situation.
Just now, his stepmother’s eyes had been fixed on Chu Yanting’s feet.
Chu Yue looked specifically but saw nothing. However, he had a suspicion in his heart.
Returning to his room, he sat cross-legged on the bed, his expression solemn.
He didn’t know if that thing was here or not, but he tentatively asked, “Did you do that?”
There was no response.
He got out of bed and went to the bathroom.
Two of the previous times he had seen that thing, it had been in the mirror.
Standing before the mirror, Chu Yue stared at his reflection and repeated the question.
After two minutes of silence, there was still no movement.
Chu Yue chuckled softly.
He didn’t know why that thing had suddenly decided to scare that woman. Could it have been for his sake?
“If it was to get revenge for me, you’d be better off scaring Chu Lian. Ideally, scare him into being impotent for half a year.”
After saying that, Chu Yue laughed again, turned off the light, and went to bed.
Just as he was drifting off to sleep, he felt that familiar sensation of being watched.
He snapped his eyes open, though his mind was still a bit groggy.
He saw that shadow again, standing right at the head of his bed. He didn’t know if it was trying to scare him or what.
“What are you doing?”
“…”
“Can we make a deal?” Chu Yue rubbed his temples, looking helpless. “I haven’t had a decent night’s sleep for several nights in a row. If you want to eat something, go raid the fridge downstairs yourself, but don’t just stand here in the middle of the night, okay?”
He didn’t care if the other party understood or if it would follow his instructions.
Since it hadn’t killed him after all these days, Chu Yue’s fear of it had diminished significantly.
He simply rolled over, ignored it, wrapped himself in the quilt, and went back to sleep with his eyes closed.
