Chapter 26
Chapter 26
Warm water poured down from overhead, creating the illusion of being in a different world.
After Chu Yue finished his shower and stepped out of his room, the doctor was already waiting in the living room.
Upon seeing the wound, the young doctor’s brow furrowed deeply. “How did this happen?”
The injuries on Chu Yue’s body weren’t just on his shoulder; there was also redness and swelling on his arm.
“If I’m not mistaken, this is a bite mark, isn’t it?”
The doctor pushed up the gold-rimmed glasses on his face, his expression hard to describe.
“Chu Yue, although I don’t know when or where you found yourself a partner, I must warn you-it’s better to break up with someone like that as soon as possible. Look at this wound yourself; this isn’t just some casual fooling around. One bite and they took a chunk of meat right out. We don’t need to be this intense with the bedroom play.”
Despite his words, his hands didn’t stop moving for a second.
He deftly applied medicine to stop the bleeding. “Don’t you feel any pain at all? Just how badly did you mess with them?”
His movements were precise and didn’t cause any discomfort, but his mouth had no filter, and his words became increasingly outrageous.
“Wait, that’s not right.” Zhao Sinan wrapped a few layers of gauze around his chest. “We grew up together, and in all these years, I’ve never seen you date anyone.”
“Could it be that you were tackled by some mad dog?”
“I’m telling you, many dogs carry rabies bacteria. Some aren’t even safe after getting vaccinated, let alone a biting dog like this.”
“Maybe you should go to the hospital for a check-up sooner rather than later. This wound looks fresh. Get the vaccine early; rabies is incurable.”
Fine beads of sweat broke out on Chu Yue’s forehead. He hadn’t felt much when he was injured, but now that it was being treated, a dull ache radiated from the wound.
Unfortunately, this person didn’t care about the patient’s feelings at all, his mouth rattling on incessantly, which was becoming irritating.
“Shut up. Say one more word and I’ll throw you out.”
Zhao Sinan wasn’t afraid of him at all. “Save your cold attitude for your company employees; I’m not buying it. As a patient, you should have the self-awareness of a patient. Is that any way to talk to your doctor?”
Chu Yue fell silent. For every word he said, this man would respond with a long string of them, making his head hurt even more.
“Fine, fine. Everyone has their secrets. If you don’t want to talk, then don’t. I’m not forcing you. Who are you putting on that face for?”
Once he finished treating the wound, Chu Yue pulled his clothes back on and called for the butler, gesturing toward Zhao Sinan with a tilt of his chin.
“Show Doctor Zhao out.”
Zhao Sinan hadn’t even finished packing his bag before he was given the cold shoulder. He was fuming.
However, he also knew Chu Yue’s personality. If it was something he didn’t want to talk about, you couldn’t pry a single word out of him even if you forced his mouth open.
Clearly, the injury on his shoulder was something he didn’t want to discuss.
After the guest left, the butler stood respectfully by his side.
“Young Master, are you still going to the office today?”
Chu Yue lowered his eyes and moved his shoulder slightly.
“I’m not going.” After saying that, he seemed to think of something. “Call Xiao Li and Xiao Wang over.”
“Yes,” the butler replied.
Chu Yue had taken everything the Nightmare Trading System said completely to heart.
That world was one where a single mistake could cost you your life. If you died in the game, you died in reality.
Since he had decided to conquer that game and work on leveling up, he needed to settle everything in the real world before entering the Instance seven days later.
Xiao Wang and Xiao Li were his assistants. Less than an hour after the butler called them, the two were standing before Chu Yue.
Chu Yue was feeling unwell, and using the computer wasn’t very convenient.
Nevertheless, he forced himself to go through the company’s entire upcoming plan and signed his name wherever it was required.
The three of them were shut in the study for a long time, talking from morning until evening, not even coming out for lunch.
The butler wondered what kind of work could be so important, yet he didn’t disturb them. Only Xiao Wang and Xiao Li knew the magnitude of the shock they were feeling.
The Chu Family was a prominent family in Jingcheng, but Chu Yue’s current company was entirely built by him and a friend; it had no connection to the family’s assets.
In fact, aside from investing and going on business trips, his friend left all major and minor company matters to Chu Yue.
In those first few years, this Young Master lived and ate at the office, never shying away from overtime or all-nighters. He had practically risked his life for the company.
And yet, this man who was still working overtime yesterday had called them in today to say he was transferring his shares.
This decision was undoubtedly the biggest news the company had seen in years. If word got out, the stock price might even drop.
However, Chu Yue spoke with certainty, and as employees, they naturally had no right to refuse.
When they emerged from the study in the evening, both their faces bore heavy expressions.
The boss wanted to see the share transfer agreement tomorrow, so they had to get it done today. As for the boss’s friend, the boss would notify him personally.
After dinner that night, the first thing Chu Yue did upon returning to his room was check for flights to S City online.
After booking a ticket for the morning after tomorrow, he tossed his phone aside to wash up.
The wounds on his body couldn’t get wet, and he needed to process everything that had happened over the last few days, so he allowed himself to be a bit lazy.
As cold water splashed against his face, Chu Yue’s mind was filled with a thousand thoughts. He thought of that Veteran, and of his dry, wrinkled skin.
He had failed him.
As he squeezed out toothpaste, Chu Yue’s thoughts had already drifted to parts unknown. He stared at his reflection in the mirror, unable to snap out of it for a long time.
Suddenly, he felt a sinister chill crawl straight from the soles of his feet to his scalp.
Chu Yue snapped back to his senses, and the shadow in the mirror vanished in the blink of an eye.
But Chu Yue knew what he had seen. There had definitely been a shadow in the mirror just now, watching him with a pair of eyes that didn’t belong to him.
Something had actually followed him out!
