Chapter 8
Chapter 8
“Xiong Yi, Xiong Er! Come here!” Immortal Siming shouted to Xiong Da and Xiong Er.
Xiong Da and Xiong Er rushed into Fairy Choulu’s arms like young swallows returning to the forest.
“Father, Mother!”
“Good boys.”
Immortal Siming’s expression froze for a moment when he saw my face.
Fairy Choulu first looked Xiong Da and Xiong Er up and down to confirm they were unharmed. Then, she glanced at me and then at her husband, who was still slightly dazed.
“Why is it you again, you Peach Blossom Demon! Wasn’t it enough when you crawled into Cangyu’s bed back then?” Choulu’s face twisted with malice. “Or are you trying to cling to someone else now that you see Cangyu is dead?”
“Mother, the big sister isn’t…”
Xiong Da tried to explain, but Choulu interrupted him.
“What did you do to my sons this time? What is your goal?”
I was stunned. It really is true what they say-behind every bratty kid is a bratty parent.
“The two little immortal friends were trying to climb onto the War God’s shoulders. I merely stopped them.” I rolled my eyes inwardly.
“He’s nothing more than a living corpse; let them climb if they want,” Immortal Siming spoke coldly.
Immortal Siming had always been insufferably arrogant.
“Father…” Xiong Da hesitated, tugging at Father Siming’s sleeve.
“Don’t be afraid, your father will back you up,” Fairy Choulu said, patting her precious son’s back.
“You?” Immortal Siming’s tone turned hostile. “A Peach Blossom Demon who has barely even touched the threshold of the Path of Immortality?”
“Cherish this life while you can,” Immortal Siming dropped a heavily threatening remark. “…Because your next life might not be so easy.”
What? Threatening your own father? My eyebrow twitched.
Just as I was cursing Immortal Siming in my head, a secret message suddenly flashed into my consciousness. It was from the very man standing before me, Immortal Siming:
“If you know what’s good for you, come to the Siming Palace after the Peach Banquet concludes in a few days. This Immortal will give you a chance to atone for your crimes.”
I looked at Immortal Siming in astonishment. What was that supposed to mean? He wanted me to go kowtow and apologize to him?
Little did I know, the more I looked at him, the more Fairy Choulu gnashed her teeth in rage.
“Mother, let’s go,” Xiong Er said, tugging at Choulu’s sleeve uneasily.
“Good son, don’t be afraid. Mother is here,” Fairy Choulu said, affectionately stroking Xiong Er’s head.
And so, Xiong Da and Xiong Er were led away by the two Immortals. As they left, Xiong Da stole a glance back and mouthed something.
I read his lips: *Sister, I’m sorry.*
“It’s okay…” I smiled.
Before I could finish the sentence, a violent gale carrying hail swept through, flipping the Bamboo Hut I resided in upside down.
“You motherfu-!”
Before I could finish that sentence either, I realized I had been placed under a Silencing Curse.
I was fuming. What kind of people were these?
Great. Now I didn’t even have a place to sleep. With the Silencing Curse active, I couldn’t even chant an Incantation for the time being.
As night fell, I surveyed my surroundings. It seemed the only natural shelter was the hollow space where Cangyu’s heart should have been. Combined with the peach tree I had conjured last night, it was enough to block the wind from three sides.
Fine. I’ll just treat it like sleeping under a bridge.
I huffed and puffed as I climbed up, dragging my quilt with me.
I gently felt Cangyu’s body beneath the quilt; it was colder and harder than stone.
Thanks to Fairy Choulu, my little Bamboo Hut was destroyed. With the wind and rain lashing the Peach Grove, she had clearly intended to ensure I didn’t get a single moment of peaceful sleep tonight.
However, she probably didn’t expect that I would move my bedding right in and build a nest inside the War God’s heart.
While the wind and rain lashed outside, the interior of the War God’s heart remained as steady as a mountain.
“Please, Fairy, spare me! I’ll never do it again!”
“It was our mistake; we failed to recognize your greatness.”
I watched Immortal Siming and Fairy Choulu kneeling before me, weeping bitter tears of regret, and I beamed with pure satisfaction.
“Hey, wake up.”
“Hey, stop smiling. It looks really ugly.”
“Hey, you’re about to drool.”
“Hey, tell me some stories about the War God too.”
“Can’t a fairy get some sleep?” Annoyed by the noise, I pulled the covers over my ears. “So annoying!”
…Wait? I can speak?
Realizing the Silencing Curse had been lifted, I bolted upright.
I didn’t expect to slam right into the source of the voice.
The other party clearly hadn’t realized I would suddenly get up. The collision left them seeing stars, and they flapped their wings, showering my head with feathers. It turned out to be a crow-pitch black all over, except for its eyes, which were red.
The crow shed two black feathers as it fluttered about.
“Hey, why did you get up so suddenly?”
The crow was extremely displeased. It perched on my shoulder and pecked hard at my head.
I clutched my head. “That hurts! Are you a woodpecker or a giant crow?”
“What giant crow! This Lord is a Golden Crow! A Golden Crow!”
“But you’re not golden, just a crow.” I rubbed my chin, sizing up the bird before me.
“I’ll turn into a Golden Crow eventually!”
“Got it, little bird.” I let out a yawn and rolled over to go back to sleep.
“…”
“Apologize! Apologize! It’s Golden Crow!”
“I recall that a Golden Crow’s eyes are supposed to be gold.” I looked at the blustering crow with a smirk.
“Ah, I… I was the only one in that clutch with red eyes, so…”
“Crows hatch from eggs.” I smiled, propping my face up on my hand as I watched the bird’s head start to sweat.
“Ah, is that so? How would I know? I was just an egg back then.”
“Is that right?” I gave a meaningful smile.
“…Don’t smile like that, it’s creeping me out.”
“First of all, you broke into my room.”
It looked at me with confusion, its expression clearly saying: *Your room? Isn’t this the War God Lord’s heart?*
“First of all, I’ve moved in, so this is my territory now,” I cleared my throat.
“Secondly, you’re disturbing my sleep.”
“Lastly, I’m going to sleep.”
With that, I flopped back down.
“Then will you tell Little Lord a story when you wake up…” it prodded me dejectedly.
“Depends on my mood.” I rolled over.
“I have to leave in two shichen. Talk to me for a bit.” The Golden Crow sat in the corner, looking aggrieved.
“Where are you going…”
“A Golden Crow has to manage the rising and setting of the sun. I have to leave before the sun comes up.”
“Oh. Good luck with that.”
“Hey, um, what does ‘buying a standing-room ticket overnight’ mean?” it asked, pecking me cautiously.
I didn’t respond. Finally, in a haze of drowsiness, I heard it grumble a few more times:
“To think This Lord felt sorry for you and lifted your curse, only for you to take over This Lord’s spot.”
“I, Xuanya, have never suffered such a great injustice.”
Oh, so his name is Xuanya.
