Chapter 14
Chapter 14
I didn’t have time to think much more about it; I had already arrived at Cangyu Hall.
It was still night here, the sky filled with stars.
Outside the room stood a withered tree; inside, a single bed and a writing desk were his only companions.
Just like his cold and indifferent personality, he had no love for decoration.
Xuanya was a Golden Crow, and his power was at its weakest during the night.
I finally understood that the immortal residence where Cangyu lived was kept in perpetual night specifically to suppress Xuanya’s demonic nature.
He had always lived such a sober, restrained life.
Looking at it that way, I really had disturbed him.
I sighed, placed the sleeping Xuanya on the bed, and turned to leave.
But a pair of arms suddenly circled my waist with force, pulling me back into a firm embrace.
With my back to Xuanya, I found myself sitting on his lap.
I froze. He buried his head in the crook of my neck, his forehead burning hot.
Glancing sideways, I saw Xuanya with his eyes squeezed shut, looking as if he were suffering from a splitting headache.
He held me tight, refusing to let me go.
“Don’t leave…”
It was Xuanya’s voice, though he spoke with great difficulty.
“It hurts…”
Panic surged through me-had something gone wrong with the Slumber Spell?
“Sister, help me…”
Xuanya’s voice was a struggle. He pressed against me, pinning me beneath him, and began unconsciously tugging at the sash of my dress.
I reached out to push him away, but my heart softened.
Sensing my hesitation, Xuanya didn’t say another word. He simply closed his eyes and kissed me.
His touch lingered from my forehead to my eyebrows, then moved from the tip of my nose to my lips.
Eventually, our clothes bloomed beneath us like a flower in full flower.
Just as my passion was stirred, he stopped and pulled away from my lips.
This was Xuanya’s mischievous side; he often left me hanging like this for a moment, waiting for me to take the initiative before he would continue.
I closed my eyes and, as was our custom, looped my arms around his neck to deepen the kiss.
But he still didn’t move.
It wasn’t until I opened my eyes that I saw a pair of golden pupils.
Unlike Xuanya’s red eyes, these were the golden eyes that only Cangyu possessed.
I was stunned, asking blankly, “Why is it you?”
Hearing this, Cangyu froze.
My heart skipped a beat. Why did those words sound so familiar? It felt as if Cangyu had said them to me once before.
Thinking of his Demon-Hunting Sword, the blade that struck terror into the hearts of all demons, I suppressed a shiver.
I had to get dressed quickly. The Cangyu before me possessed a cold divine nature, without a hint of the demonic nature that had shown me pity when we first met.
If I didn’t get out of here fast, this particular demon hunt might involve more than just a blade grazing my skin to intimidate me.
I frantically grabbed at my clothes, trying to put them on, but the more I hurried, the more tangled I became. I couldn’t make heads or tails of my dress.
Thinking of Cangyu’s heartless personality, I was nearly driven to tears by anxiety.
I stole a glance at Leyao, the sword that never left his side. It was leaning quietly against the bed, showing no signs of a thirst for blood.
Gathering my courage, I peeked at Cangyu.
In the starlit room, he simply leaned over, supporting himself with his hands, and watched me silently.
It seemed… it seemed like there was a hint of a smile at the corner of his mouth?
Was I seeing things?
Once I emboldened myself to look closer, I realized I had indeed been mistaken.
He was as cold as a sculpture. How could there be any hint of a smile?
He was still the same cold-hearted, detached Cangyu.
Perhaps I had stared for too long and provoked his displeasure, for I saw him raise his hand.
It was over! He was definitely going to use Leyao to kill me!
Terrified, I immediately buried my head in the pile of clothes.
Wait… the pain I expected never came.
Instead, a wave of warmth washed over me.
It turned out he had only reached out to pull the quilt over me, covering my body.
“Are you that afraid of me?” His tone sounded somewhat dejected.
Dejected about what? Dejected that he hadn’t killed me with a single blow when I kissed him?
I didn’t dare speak. I was incredibly vulnerable, okay?
I huddled under the covers like an ostrich. For a long time, the punishment I expected from the War God’s wrath didn’t come.
I cautiously poked my head out from under the quilt and looked into his golden eyes, hesitating. “You… you’re not going to kill me?”
Hearing my question, Cangyu actually froze.
“Why would I kill you?”
“…”
He had me stumped. That’s right, why would he kill me?
“I don’t know. It’s just that I’ve crossed the line so many times, I felt like you were definitely going to kill me this time.”
He spoke softly. “I won’t.”
*Really? I don’t believe you,* I thought, mentally curling my lip.
“Then… how is Xuanya…”
I remembered him crying out in pain just now. His power must have been suppressed, and I didn’t know how Xuanya was doing.
“He is resisting fiercely.”
His tone was always so difficult to read, making it impossible for me to guess his thoughts.
“It must hurt a lot…” I lowered my eyes.
“My power is still unstable. I can’t fully suppress Xuanya, which is why this is happening.”
“So he’s just asleep, right?”
Those golden eyes reflected my face, which was full of anxiety.
Cangyu nodded.
“That’s good, that’s good.” I breathed a long sigh of relief. Seeing that he didn’t seem displeased, I decided to push my luck. “Then I’ll have to trouble you to take good care of Xuanya. Let him out for some fresh air often, but don’t let him come looking for me, and tell him not to worry about me.”
“Where are you going?”
As if realizing his tone was too urgent, Cangyu paused before quickly adding, “After all, you are a demon. I must know your whereabouts.”
Was he afraid that because I was a demon by nature, I would cause chaos in the Mortal Realm?
I found it funny. *You think too highly of me. Even when I had your Half-God Power and the Monster King’s Inner Core, I didn’t cause any trouble for over a thousand years. What could I possibly do now with such weak cultivation?*
“I’m going home. I won’t come back to the Ninth Heaven anymore.”
Still afraid he wouldn’t be at ease, I hurriedly added, “Don’t worry, I won’t do anything bad, and I won’t come back to the Ninth Heaven to bother you again.”
From the moment I said I was leaving until now, his face remained cold, his emotions impossible to gauge.
Was he afraid I’d break my word?
I muttered to myself: *How did I never notice before that Cangyu was such a petty god?*
So, I stared at him earnestly and said, emphasizing every word, “I really won’t come back.”
He turned a deaf ear to my solemn promise, merely knitting his brows.
“What’s wrong?” I looked at him uneasily.
Did I really have to die for him to be at peace?
How could this god be so narrow-minded?
His long lashes lowered, and he said nothing.
I didn’t know what he was thinking. Just as I thought he was debating whether to kill me to eliminate any future trouble…
I saw beads of sweat forming on his forehead and his teeth biting into his lower lip.
“Are you… okay?”
“I’m fine, Little Demon,” Cangyu’s voice was hoarse from the silence. “I’ve only just awakened. My power is unstable, and I can’t suppress him.”
