Chapter 3
My roommate scrolled past a post on Weibo and forwarded it to me.
#Ji and Pei Families Join Forces; Engagement Banquet Imminent#
I stared at the headline for a long while before finally clicking on it.
What met my eyes was a photo of Ji Lanchi and his fiancée.
I had to admit, they were a handsome couple.
However, his fiancée looked a bit familiar. I racked my brain but couldn’t recall where I had seen her before.
Then, I clicked on their interview video.
Ji Lanchi maintained his usual nonchalant demeanor, but his answers were so impeccable that no fault could be found in them.
Until his fiancée spoke.
My expression froze.
That voice sounded so familiar.
Back in high school, I was terrible at video games. Once, I was mocked by a teammate over voice chat until I cried. Right then, a clear, elegant female voice suddenly rang out.
She unleashed a torrent of verbal fire, successfully flaming the teammate who was bullying me until they went AFK and quit the game.
I was stunned. Filled with gratitude, I added her as a friend in-game and on WeChat. From then on, I clung to her coattails, playing support every time to protect her.
She had posted a selfie once on her Moments. She was beautiful, and the background looked like some high-end restaurant-very luxurious and classy.
After I liked the post, she said she’d take me there to eat the next time we met up in person. I agreed.
Unfortunately, not long after, her WeChat account was deactivated, and she never logged into her game account again.
Since then, I’ve gone back to gaming alone.
After much pestering on my part, Cheng Chao finally told me that he would be working at a banquet tomorrow night.
The next day.
I went, only to be stopped at the entrance.
The waiter at the door asked me to show my invitation.
…Maybe I should just forget it.
Just as I turned around, I ran straight into Ji Lanchi and his fiancée.
Ji Lanchi’s expression didn’t change; he merely spared me a glance.
His fiancée crossed her arms, arching a delicate eyebrow. “You look quite familiar, little sister.”
Hearing her voice face-to-face, she sounded even more like that gaming pro I used to follow!
I didn’t say a word.
His fiancée’s face soured in an instant. She shot Ji Lanchi a cold look. “What kind of trash do you dare let show up in front of me?”
Ji Lanchi didn’t answer. He lowered his gaze, his voice trailing upward with a slight lilt. “What are you doing here?”
I pursed my lips, still remaining silent, and tried to step around them to leave.
However, my wrist was grabbed by the woman. She was half a head taller than me, and her tone was lazy. “If you want to go in, then go in.”
With that, she casually slapped the invitation toward the waiter. “She’s with me.”
That sentence reminded me of that older sister who carried me back then, taking on eight people at once: “She’s with me. If you’ve got the guts, come at me, you bunch of losers.”
It was exactly the same.
As she pulled me into the banquet hall, I asked probingly, “Do you like playing video games?”
She huffed. “Me? I only play golf.”
That made sense.
Every inch of her radiated the vibe that she didn’t like anything except luxury goods.
Ji Lanchi followed behind with one hand in his pocket. Dressed in a suit, he actually looked quite decent.
“Hey,” his fiancée asked me with a frown, “did he not give you enough money?”
“Huh?” I was dazed.
But I understood immediately.
I guessed her next line would be: *Otherwise, why are you still hanging around in front of us?*
But she didn’t say it. Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a figure, and my eyes lit up.
“Um, thank you. I have something to take care of. I’ll be going now.”
With that, I hurried toward that figure.
