Chapter 2

I was humming happily to myself as I scrolled through my dormitory group chat, where my roommates were debating who was more handsome: Ji Lanchi or Cheng Chao.

[I think it’s Ji Lanchi. Being rich is a major plus.]

[But he has too many women around him… I don’t like that type.]

[True. Cheng Chao is the way to go!]

Great minds think alike; they truly are my best friends.

I quickly added a “+1” to the thread.

Just as I was typing out my profound opinion, I received a call from a delivery driver, and my unsent message vanished.

Refusing to give up, I started typing again.

[Totally agree, girls! Cheng Chao is so handsome and clean. Isn’t he ten thousand times better than Ji Lanchi? A man’s most important trait is his chastity! Besides, Cheng Chao looks like the type who talks less and does more. Ji Lanchi? Lol, please.]

After hitting send, no one replied for a long time.

I frowned.

…Then I realized I had sent it to the wrong group.

The half-edited message was still sitting in the draft box of my dormitory group, where the girls were still chatting away fervently.

As for the group I actually posted in…

It was dead silent.

Bone-chillingly silent.

It was a group chat created ages ago by one of Ji Lanchi’s buddies during a game of Truth or Dare at a KTV.

Because no one had spoken in it for so long, I had forgotten about its existence when I blocked Ji Lanchi.

Someone had just posted an advertisement, which caused the group to pop back up to the top of my list.

And Ji Lanchi was in that group.

[?]

Just as I was about to hit the “Leave Group” button, Ji Lanchi posted a question mark.

[Cheng Chao?] he followed up.

His tone was clearly one of disdain.

Now that I had money, I wasn’t intimidated by Ji Lanchi anymore.

I replied: [Yes. He’s super handsome. Don’t be jealous.]

[?] Another question mark.

[Stop with the impotent rage, buddy.] I rolled my eyes and promptly exited the group chat.

My past with Ji Lanchi wasn’t exactly a secret, but the relationship had never been official.

When people noticed that I was no longer appearing anywhere with Ji Lanchi, they all drew their own conclusions.

I didn’t care about that, though.

I automatically ignored all the probing and curious looks I received while walking on campus.

That evening, I finally heard the knock on the door I had been longing for.

I flew to the door and threw it open, giving Cheng Chao an intimate hug.

I looked up.

A man was looking down at me with a half-smile.

It wasn’t my poor, pitiable campus heartthrob.

It was-

My former sugar daddy.

I pushed him away instantly and tried to slam the door.

However, Ji Lanchi reached out and blocked the door with his hand, arching an eyebrow lazily. “Forgotten how to greet people already?”

I ground my teeth. “Where’s Cheng Chao?”

Ji Lanchi looked down at me, the curve of his lips turning mocking. “You’ve got guts. Mentioning another man in the house I bought for you?”

My bravado deflated.

This luxury flat was indeed a gift from Ji Lanchi.

I fell silent for a moment. “Calculate the cost. I’ll transfer the money to you.”

Ji Lanchi looked at me coldly; he didn’t believe I had the money.

I glared back at him.

He cupped my chin with one hand and said casually, “You really are the most disobedient one.”

I was so angry I wanted to bite him, but he pinched my cheeks.

“Are you a psycho? You have a fiancée and you’re still acting all lovey-dovey with someone else!” I suddenly broke free from his grip and gave him a shove.

Taking advantage of him stepping back, I slammed the door shut.

…

Why was it Ji Lanchi who showed up?

Where was Cheng Chao?

I sat on the floor with my back against the door, hugging my knees, and opened my chat with Cheng Chao.

The last message was a ten-thousand-yuan transfer I had sent him, which he hadn’t accepted yet.

I couldn’t help but message him: [Where are you?]

A few minutes later, he replied:

[Working.]

My annoyed mood softened a bit.

Right, his family was so poor and his life was so difficult.

He was so proud and aloof; selling his body must have been an act of desperation.

[Where are you working? I’ll come see you,] I asked considerately.

I hadn’t expected Cheng Chao to still be working in the middle of the night. It showed how hardworking and diligent he was.

[No need.] This time, he replied very quickly.

Oh my god.

He must be worried that it’s unsafe for a girl like me to visit him so late at night.

Comparing the two, he was more than just a little bit better than that pampered young master Ji Lanchi, who only knew how to eat, drink, and have fun.

I carefully typed out: [Then the two of us…]

[Next time,] he replied.

That works.

After all, I’m an understanding sugar mommy.

I’m so much better than Ji Lanchi.
