Chapter 8
Watching her walk away, I nodded with a sense of deep satisfaction.
Even in a game, you should still do good deeds. Kind-hearted little girls like me are getting rarer and rarer.
“I’m Xia Wei, and he’s Zhou Mingli,” a faint voice came from beside me.
The boy and girl who’d just been hugging each other and trembling like leaves were now staring at me with open admiration.
“That was probably the Slit-Mouthed Woman,” Xia Wei said, still shaken as she patted her chest and smiled awkwardly. “I heard from other participants that if you run into her, you’re basically doomed. I didn’t expect you to send her away with just a few lines.”
Huh? I looked at Xia Wei, my brain whirring as I tried to make sense of what this NPC was saying.
A moment later, I had an epiphany. So the “weird stuff” in the game’s intro meant this kind of thing! A romance otome game with horror and Strange Tale elements-excellent. Fresh. Innovative!
A lilting ringtone cut through my thoughts.
I happily pulled out my phone, ready to receive a call from a male lead, only for the pitch-black screen to splash me with cold water.
Zhou Mingli’s right hand shook as he fumbled a phone out of his pocket. He answered, but his sweaty grip failed him, and the phone slipped free, hitting the ground and skidding more than a meter.
It stopped right by my feet.
“Tonight, I’ll come find you…”
Being the kind person I am, I picked up the phone for Zhou Mingli and heard a familiar voice from the other end.
Boyfriend!
“You’re coming back tonight? And when you get back, you’re not going to see your own girlfriend-you’re going out in the middle of the night to meet some other guy?” I blurted in disbelief. “No wonder you were always so cold to me before. So you don’t like women at all…”
Could the dev team really be this vicious? This is an otome game!
That low, pleasant voice fell silent. The receiver was dead quiet; there wasn’t even the sound of breathing.
“Say something! You’re happy now, aren’t you-watching me get all anxious and worked up over you? You cold, heartless man-I’ll never forgive you!”
“N-no… What is even going on in your head?” The person on the other end sighed heavily, like he had a thousand words to say, but in the end it all condensed into one sentence: “Why is it you again…”
“Then it’s settled. I’ll be waiting at home tonight.”
The only response was a vague “mm-hm,” followed by the busy tone.
There was no time to waste. I hadn’t found any other romanceable male leads, so Boyfriend was my only hope of clearing the game.
If he ended his business trip and came home early, that would give us more chances to interact. Maxing out his affection score would be easy.
With the hope of escaping this game right in front of me, I curved my lips into a smile and handed the phone back to Zhou Mingli.
He looked at me strangely. Xia Wei spoke up, still shivering. “You… know him?”
I sheepishly twirled my hair and giggled behind my hand. “Of course! He’s my boyfriend.”
“?!”
Xia Wei’s expression was complicated. In the end, she seemed to make up her mind. “Sis, can we stay at your place tonight?”
I nodded. Of course that was fine.
That way, Boyfriend wouldn’t have to run back and forth, either.

I Treat the Horror World as an Otome Game
I fell into a world of Strange Tales, but I thought I was playing a romance otome game.
At the stroke of midnight, the cobweb-covered landline rang. A raspy, eerie voice drifted through the...
