Chapter 7
I slept dreamlessly through the night. While brushing my teeth in front of the mirror this morning, I played a game of rock-paper-scissors against myself.
Hehe, I won all three rounds.
Looks like my luck is going to be great today!
Checking the fridge, I found it completely empty. To fill my stomach, I decided to head to the town’s only supermarket.
On the way, I ran into the teenage girl who had visited me yesterday.
She was with a man, and the two of them were in a frantic hurry, their faces as pale as if they were being chased by a ghost.
“Are you guys going to the supermarket too?” I waved cheerfully at her. “Hey, slow down a bit! I see your friend behind you reaching out to tap your shoulder. She definitely has something to say to you.”
Who would’ve thought that as soon as I finished speaking, the two of them would start sprinting like they’d hit a speed boost.
But in the end, the woman following closely behind them still managed to rest her hand on the girl’s shoulder.
Seeing that the atmosphere was a bit off, I familiarly inserted myself into the trio’s conversation.
“Do you think… I’m beautiful?”
The woman, dressed all in black and wearing a white surgical mask, was tall-at least six feet. Her exposed eyes were deep and beautiful, making one wonder what kind of stunning beauty lay beneath that mask.
Ah, I thought it was some big deal, but she was just looking for a street beauty rating!
“Beautiful, very beautiful!” I gave the woman a big thumbs-up. “Dazzling, breathtaking, world-shaking beauty! I wouldn’t just give you a ten out of ten-I’d snap this guy’s ribs to make a soup for you.” I gestured casually toward the dazed boy standing nearby.
The woman seemed dizzied by my rapid-fire string of compliments.
She slowly pulled down her mask until her nose was almost touching mine. When she smiled, the massive gashes at the corners of her mouth tore open all the way to her ears.
“How about now? Am I still beautiful?”
I frowned and advised her earnestly, “Are you insecure because your mouth is a bit wide? Don’t worry about it, sister. Beauty is diverse. A ‘cherry mouth’ isn’t the only definition of pretty. Besides, with your mouth upturned like that, you look very kissable.”
After saying that, I covered my face and let out a bell-like, bashful giggle. “Oh, how embarrassing! I can’t believe I said my inner thoughts out loud.”
The woman froze, her face turning red after a long moment. She hurriedly pulled her mask back on.
“Don’t say such things!” she muttered, touching her cheek. “I’m not as beautiful as you say.”
“A confident woman is the most beautiful!” I slapped her back, straightening the slouch she had from being so tall. “Chest out, sister! Next time you want a beauty rating, just ask openly. Believe me, you’re gorgeous. You don’t need to wear a mask!”
She didn’t reply immediately, but her gaze gradually grew firm. She took long strides forward and eventually disappeared at the end of the road.
