Chapter 10
Chapter 10
In the evening, a group of aggressive-looking adults knocked on my door even earlier than my Boyfriend.
I kept the door half-closed, eyeing them warily. “Whatever you’re selling, I’m not interested. No broadband, no insurance.”
The man leading them, who wore glasses, froze for a moment. A lackey behind him whispered in his ear, “Brother Chen, I saw that girl duck into this non-participant’s house with my own eyes.”
“We’re not salesmen,” Brother Chen said, a smile spreading across his face. His refined features gave him an air of approachability. “We’re looking for someone. Two kids had a falling out with us and ran away from home.”
I turned my head to look at the nervous Xia Wei, then flashed a smile of my own.
“Oh, is that so? Well, that’s perfect. This girl and I hit it off immediately because of our shared interests. I was planning on having her stay for dinner. Why don’t you gentlemen come in as well? You can have a good talk with the kids.”
Brother Chen didn’t respond immediately, but the Stubble Man behind him pushed his way in with a swagger.
“What’s there to be afraid of? It’s just a scrawny non-participant. It’s not like she can eat us. I haven’t had a decent meal in days in this world because of all those freaky things.”
With him leading the way, the other three men followed him inside one by one.
Zhou Mingli shielded Xia Wei behind his back, watching them warily as they approached.
“Make yourselves at home. The bathroom is straight ahead and to the left,” I said, nonchalantly sitting down at the dining table to start prepping the vegetables.
