Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I crawled out of bed early on the first day, well before dawn.
Since I could survive as long as I played my assigned role well, there was nothing wrong with being a dedicated, hardworking street food vendor who started early and finished late, right?
It wasn’t until I poked around the kitchen that I realized the owner of this stall sold Mo every day.
Plain, white Mo.
I picked up a few baked Mo from the pot and took a bite. They were dry and bland, like chewing on candle wax.
If I served this kind of stuff to the Eerie, wouldn’t they turn hostile and file a complaint?
Frowning, I spat it out and began scanning the remaining ingredients in the kitchen.
Half a side of pork, onions, green peppers, and some star anise spices…
An hour later, I pulled several Baiji Mo from the furnace-crispy and slightly golden on both sides, crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside.
Taking a few deep breaths, I fearfully gathered my ingredients and headed out to set up my stall.
It’s fine, it’s fine. It’s not like customers will definitely come to buy anything…
“Mo for sale! Get your Roujiamo here-crispy bread, fragrant meat, savory but not greasy!”
I sat on a small stool, listlessly calling out my wares.
This village was eerily quiet. It would be a miracle if anyone actually came to buy Mo this early in the morning!
“Boss, give me a Mo.”
“…”
My first diner was a young man with pale skin, long legs, and a refined temperament.
Unfortunately, there was a bloody, gaping hole in the back of his head. It was a gruesome sight.
“Sure.”
Realizing something was wrong, I immediately lowered my head, focusing intently on my task to barely maintain my composure.
Little did I know that the moment the man appeared, the comments in the Live Stream exploded.
“It’s the mini Boss, Qin Xiao! He loves cracking open Players’ skulls!”
“According to the stats, his kill rate is as high as 99%. This newbie is done for.”
“Stay steady, Xiao Li! Xiao Li is the best!”
I was completely unaware of the comments at that moment. Under Qin Xiao’s watchful gaze, I simply tied on my apron and got to work.
I fired up the stove to toast the Mo, opened the braising pot, and pulled out the tender, slow-cooked pork. I began chopping the perfect mix of lean and fatty meat.
Qin Xiao didn’t seem to be in a hurry to eat. Instead, he started chatting with me about village gossip like an ordinary customer.
“Boss Li, have you heard about what happened last night?”
“I went to bed early last night. What happened?”
To maintain my persona and avoid slipping up, I forced myself to keep the conversation going.
“Well, Li Dalin from the end of the village had a couple of drinks last night and said some things he shouldn’t have.”
“And guess what? In the middle of the night, his wife hacked him to death.”
The man described the bloody scene with a twisted sense of amusement, carefully observing my reaction.
What he meant was that the previous Player’s persona had crumbled, and they were discovered and tortured to death by the Eerie.
Sure enough, when my hand suddenly jerked to a stop, he excitedly raised a hammer toward the back of my head.
“Boss Li, why did you stop?”
“Your Mo is ready.”
“…”
