Chapter 9
A new day arrived. Zhang Bei stood in front of the Bumper Car, stroking his chin thoughtfully.
Although the System’s mission was delayed yesterday, it still arrived in the middle of the night.
[Mission: The new facility needs testers. Please find ten testers for a trial run.]
[Mission: The amusement park has successfully opened. Please build your reputation in Dingyang City. Current progress: three percent.]
The trial play mission was simple enough; with the employees and the Chef Team, it was easy to gather enough people.
As for the reputation mission, that would require a bit more planning.
Not long after, Chef Li led a group of employees inside.
Seeing Zhang Bei, he was momentarily stunned.
“Boss, you’re here so early?”
Zhang Bei yawned, “Just checking out the new facility. Want to give it a try?”
At these words, everyone shrank back a little.
The traumatic memories of the Drop Tower were still fresh; no one wanted to risk themselves again.
Looking at the group in front of him, Zhang Bei rolled his eyes.
“The new facility is the Bumper Car. It’s not that scary.”
“I’ll do it!”
Hearing it was the Bumper Car, Li Yang was the first to jump forward.
In everyone’s mind, Bumper Cars had always been a fun attraction.
Naturally, there was no reason to be afraid.
Except for Chef Li and the doctor, almost everyone got into the beast-like Bumper Cars.
Zhang Bei helped everyone fasten their seatbelts and pressed the switch.
This time, the Bumper Cars were designed without electromagnetic controls, instead running on batteries.
Li Yang chose a lion-shaped Bumper Car, and the moment the mechanism activated, he shot forward.
The two people in front of Li Yang tried to dodge, but the Bumper Cars suddenly accelerated and crashed into each other.
Three Bumper Cars bounced apart instantly, the recoil sending them drifting back two meters.
Just then, the ground suddenly split open, instantly swallowing Li Yang’s Bumper Car.
A meaningful smile appeared on Zhang Bei’s face as he looked at the remaining people. “Get moving, or should I help you out?”
At Zhang Bei’s words, the dazed group shivered and started ramming their cars together.
They had no choice but to crash-if the boss activated something, who knew what other schemes awaited them?
Meanwhile, deep underground, Li Yang gripped the steering wheel tightly as the car sped along.
It was a tunnel, curving downward, with flickering lights making it impossible to see ahead.
“Roar!”
Already tense, Li Yang was startled by a tiger’s roar.
The car slowed down, but before he could catch his breath, the wall beside him suddenly cracked open, and a tiger stared intently at him.
Seeing the tiger move, Li Yang slammed the accelerator, speeding forward.
From here, the path led upward.
Along the way, countless beasts joined the chase, and Li Yang wished he could stomp the accelerator to pieces.
Seeing that the arena was now empty, Zhang Bei gently pressed a red button.
Li Yang’s face lit up with excitement as he saw the exit ahead-once he reached the surface, he’d be safe!
But suddenly, the walls shifted, and another Bumper Car burst out from a tunnel in the wall.
Li Yang’s expression changed; he twisted the steering wheel violently but still couldn’t avoid the collision.
The Bumper Cars crashed into separate tunnels, the walls rotated, and the entrances were sealed shut.
Looking at the tunnel ahead, Li Yang felt his scalp tingle.
Zhang Bei sat in the Monitoring Room, his face full of smiles.
There were twelve underground tunnels in total, corresponding to the twelve Bumper Cars above ground.
Half of the passage was filled with beasts, while the other half was occupied by ghostly figures and zombies.
All of these were illusions created through technical means, but in the dim environment, it was hard to tell the difference.
What’s more, for the sake of realism, Zhang Bei even designed a few mechanical zombies and beasts and placed them inside the passage.
Li Yang was really lucky-he had just left the beast passage and immediately entered the ghostly passage.
Watching Li Yang’s pale face on the monitor, Zhang Bei couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
The Bumper Car ride lasted a full twenty-five minutes.
Excluding the five minutes spent above ground, everyone got to enjoy a solid twenty minutes of fun underground.
The underground passage wasn’t actually that long, but as soon as someone approached the exit, the Bumper Cars would collide and enter another passage.
Seeing that the time was about right, Zhang Bei pressed the stop button.
The ghostly figures in the passage vanished, and the Bumper Cars automatically carried everyone back to the surface.
The doctor didn’t share Zhang Bei’s mischievous sense of humor and was simply sitting by the Pavilion, waiting for Chef Li’s breakfast.
When he saw the ground split open, he immediately turned his gaze over.
One Bumper Car after another stopped, carrying countless half-conscious employees.
Seeing their vacant stares, Wang Qingshan couldn’t help but glance at the corners of his mouth.
Goodness, what on earth did they go through?
Even those coming off the Drop Tower didn’t look this bad, did they?
He walked forward with his flashlight in hand.
After checking each person, he found that except for Li Yang, who was overly frightened, the rest had basically maxed out their adrenaline.
With a resentful look, they glanced at Zhang Bei, who had just walked out of the Monitoring Room.
“How are they supposed to work after this?”
Zhang Bei scratched his head. “It’s fine, they’ll be okay after a short rest. We’ll just open a bit later.”
Chef Li pushed a small cart over. “Breakfast is soy milk and steamed buns.”
Zhang Bei casually picked up a steamed bun and took a bite.
He was in an especially good mood now-the test task was complete, and he’d received his reward.
[Reward: Bumper Car test completed, received Heart Rate Monitor.]
This thing was just a Wristband that could monitor visitors’ heart rates and would issue a warning if it exceeded healthy levels.
Not long after, the employees who had been on the Bumper Cars also regained consciousness.
After all, having experienced the Drop Tower before, they’d built up some resistance.
As for Li Yang, his legs were still weak, and he was trembling all over.
Who knows what he encountered in the zombie passage.
He’d watched as his Bumper Car charged straight at a female ghost-that kind of terror would be unforgettable for life.
Still, Zhang Bei wasn’t an unfeeling boss, and the Amusement Park opened an hour late.
A huge crowd of visitors swarmed in, and countless unsuspecting guests lined up in front of the Drop Tower.
Qingqing, holding her phone, sneaked into the Amusement Park.
Seeing Zhang Bei in front of the Drop Tower, she nearly ground her teeth to pieces.
But today’s goal wasn’t to challenge the boss’s authority, but to fulfill a promise.
She’d lost a bet with her Stream Viewers during last night’s livestream, as expected.
The wager was to return to the Amusement Park!
But Qingqing had already made up her mind. She pointed at the livestream with one hand.
“Don’t think I’m scared. Today, I’ll teach you all a lesson!”
With that, Qingqing moved closer to the ticket booth and bought a fifty-yuan ticket.
Changkong: [Tch, if you’ve got guts, go on the Drop Tower!]
March Squid: [Bumper Cars are nothing, the Drop Tower is for real men!]
Just This: [Exactly, exactly, we want to see the Drop Tower!]
