Chapter 42

Zhang Bei had already formed a few ideas on how to arrange things for Shen Nan.

He couldn’t stay at the Toy House forever, so he decided to simply hand over the manufacturing and sales responsibilities to her. He would only charge a nominal processing fee each year.

Watching Shen Nan leave with the bank card in hand, Zhang Bei let out a slow breath.

If he hadn’t shut down the Amusement Park back then, Shen Nan probably wouldn’t be struggling so much now.

However, Zhang Bei had no regrets. His father had only six months left to live at the time, and Zhang Bei hadn’t wanted any distractions during those final months.

He shook his head, pushing those messy thoughts aside for the moment.

The most important thing right now was the planning for the Amusement Park.

The rainy season was fast approaching, and Zhang Bei planned to use this period to design blueprints and accumulate Emotional Value.

The blueprints weren’t particularly difficult; the challenge lay in the accumulation of Emotional Value.

This resource was generated entirely by the tourists. To accumulate it quickly, there was only one way: increase the foot traffic of the Amusement Park!

After contemplating for a long while, Zhang Bei began to draft some promotional events.

Just as he finished planning an event, Chef Li walked in from outside.

“The boss is here early today!”

Zhang Bei nodded slightly. “Let’s have some porridge this morning. I also have a few things to discuss with everyone.”

“You got it, Boss!”

Chef Li took off his coat, changed into his chef’s whites, and disappeared into the kitchen.

A sharp glint flashed in his eyes; this was the first time he had heard the boss specifically mention something he wanted to eat.

As the highest-paid man in the entire Amusement Park, he had to show off his skills!

As Chef Li entered the kitchen, the other employees began trickling into the dining hall one after another.

Everyone tacitly avoided disturbing Zhang Bei while he was writing his proposal, even lowering their voices as they spoke.

Half an hour later, Chef Li walked out carrying a large basin.

“Breakfast is served!”

Hearing the voice, Zhang Bei finally put down his pen.

“Everyone, let’s eat first. I have some matters to discuss while we eat.”

“Sure thing, Boss!”

Li Yang agreed enthusiastically. After all, this was the first time he had seen Chef Li make porridge since he started working at the Amusement Park.

Once everyone had served themselves, Zhang Bei spoke up slowly.

“The rainy season starts in about ten days. I’m planning to run two events during this period.”

Zhang Bei took a sip of porridge, giving the employees time to process the information.

“First, tourists can exchange their ticket stubs for a portion of popcorn-a small size is fine.”

“Second, the entire Amusement Park will offer a ten percent discount for the next ten days.”

“Third, anyone who gets likes on their Moments post will get a free cup of sour plum soup. You guys can discuss among yourselves exactly how many likes are required.”

“That’s all for now. Does anyone have any questions?”

You Bai frowned slightly. “Boss, sour plum soup isn’t very popular at the Ski Resort. It’s not hot over there.”

“Then swap it for a hot drink. Chef Li, is that okay with you?”

“No problem on my end!”

Li Yang had a long face. “Boss, we don’t have enough manpower. Not unless we cancel our rotating days off.”

“Don’t worry about that. I’m interviewing new employees today. They should be able to start tomorrow.”

“Then I’m good!”

Finally, Zhang Bei turned his gaze toward the doctor. “You’re definitely going to be swamped. Do you know anyone who can come in for part-time work?”

The doctor thought for a moment. “I can find two people. That should be enough to handle these ten days.”

Zhang Bei gave an affirmative grunt. “Then it’s settled. The events start as soon as the park opens. Stay sharp!”

“Yes, sir!”

Looking at the group of energetic employees, a smile spread across Zhang Bei’s face.
The amusement park’s operating hours arrived, and the iron chains on the main gates were unlocked.

The first wave of tourists flooded in.

Zhang Bei had written the details of the promotion on a fluorescent board and placed it right at the entrance of the Toy House.

This was the most prominent spot; anyone entering the park would see it immediately.

“Honey, look! There’s an event here!”

“It’s not another one of those ‘beat the game’ things, is it?”

“No, it’s a discount, and you can get some snacks!”

Their conversation instantly drew a large crowd.

But after reading the promotion on the fluorescent board, the crowd dispersed as quickly as a receding tide.

The most important thing right now, of course, was to buy tickets.

A single ticket got you a serving of popcorn. If they played two attractions, wouldn’t they have enough popcorn for the day?

Not to mention, there was currently a ten percent discount.

Zhang Bei sat in the Toy House, nodding with satisfaction as he watched the flow of people.

He settled comfortably into his chair and began scrolling through the System Mall.

By ten in the morning, the third wave of tourists had already arrived.

Li Yang’s voice reached Zhang Bei’s ears.

“Boss, they say they’re here for the interviews!”

Zhang Bei opened his eyes, and the first thing he saw was Li Lei’s somewhat dazed face.

Counting them carefully, he saw that the few people he had set his sights on had all shown up today.

“Follow me.”

Zhang Bei led the way, taking the prospective employees to the Ski Resort.

The scenery here was beautiful, and there were plenty of chairs.

The first to be interviewed was, naturally, Li Lei.

“Have a seat. No need to be nervous.”

Li Lei sat down and gave a wry smile.

“I’m not nervous, I just didn’t expect you to be the boss.”

Zhang Bei raised an eyebrow. “Why? I don’t look like a boss?”

“You really don’t.”

Zhang Bei’s face darkened at Li Lei’s response.

This person… had zero emotional intelligence!

However, the interview had to continue. Zhang Bei asked his first question.

“How long have you been in the amusement park industry?”

Li Lei thought about it seriously. “Five years. I’ve been working in amusement parks ever since I graduated.”

“Why haven’t you thought about changing careers?”

“I like it. Besides, employees get to use the rides for free!”

Zhang Bei gave a small smile. He had handpicked these people himself.

The interview was really just a formality of a few questions.

“I can offer you a base salary of four thousand, plus a commission from ticket sales.”

Upon hearing Zhang Bei’s words, Li Lei’s eyes instantly lit up.

“I accept! I accept!”

It was a recognized fact that wages in the domestic service industry were generally low.

Zhang Bei didn’t have the power to change that on a large scale, but he could find ways to ensure his own employees lived a better life.

“This is the contract. Once you’ve signed it, you can report to the young man who brought you here.”

Li Lei gave the contract a cursory glance before signing her name.

The contract was made in duplicate. Zhang Bei tucked one copy away and then looked back at Li Lei.

“I want to ask a question. What did you encounter while job hunting? I feel like your guard is very high. Of course, it’s fine if you don’t want to talk about it.”

Li Lei’s face stiffened. Was this boss toxic?

She silently labeled him as having no emotional intelligence in her heart.

“It’s not that I can’t talk about it. It happened back when I was in Shanghai…”

The story lasted for ten minutes. By the time it was over, the look in Zhang Bei’s eyes as he watched Li Lei was full of sympathy.

The situation wasn’t actually that complicated. The amusement park where Li Lei previously worked had gone out of business.

Out of necessity, she had gone to Shanghai to try her luck, hoping she might get a job at Disney.

However, an accident occurred just as she arrived in Shanghai.
