Chapter 41

The first person Zhang Bei found was an employee in charge of the Carousel.

She was a girl with a gentle voice and plenty of patience. Her baby fat made her look quite adorable.

“Hello, may I ask your name?”

The girl looked at Zhang Bei, momentarily stunned. “Huh? Me?”

“Yes, you.”

Looking at the somewhat dazed girl, Zhang Bei silently deducted two points in his head.

Too dim-witted.

However, a smile filled the girl’s face. “My name is Li Lei. Is there anything I can help you with?”

A line of black appeared on Zhang Bei’s forehead when he heard her name. “Your parents certainly have an imagination.”

Li Lei simply smiled. Over the years, so many people had poked fun at her name that she had long since grown used to it.

Zhang Bei didn’t forget his primary goal. “Are you interested in changing your workplace?”

Li Lei looked at Zhang Bei warily. “I might be slow to react, but you won’t be able to scam any money out of me!”

“I’m not a scammer. Do you know the Amusement Park in the suburbs?”

“I do. I actually wanted to go there, but they weren’t hiring anymore.”

“If you know it, then this is easy. Do you want to work there?”

Li Lei’s gaze grew even more suspicious. “I’m definitely not giving you any agency fees, medical exam fees, and don’t even think about taking my ID card!”

She spoke with such conviction and force that Zhang Bei felt like a flock of crows should be flying overhead in an awkward silence.

He couldn’t imagine what this girl had been through. It was hard to believe a worker could be so humble and defensive.

“I’m not taking your money, and I don’t want your ID. If you agree, just come to the Amusement Park in the suburbs tomorrow for an interview.”

“Really no fees?”

“Really none.”

“Then okay.”

Zhang Bei waved his hand and walked toward another area.

This girl’s experiences were truly pitiable; he would have to ask her more about it when she arrived tomorrow.

The next few people went very smoothly. As soon as they heard it was the Amusement Park in the suburbs, they agreed without a second thought.

Zhang Bei spent basically the entire day at this Amusement Park, observing employees and poaching talent.

Since this Amusement Park wouldn’t be open much longer anyway, he couldn’t let these excellent talents become unemployed.

After wandering around the Amusement Park all day, Zhang Bei finally drove back home.

He pushed open the wooden door that hadn’t been opened in a long time. The first things he saw were two memorial portraits placed side by side.

“Dad, the amusement park is about to be renovated. Your wish will be fulfilled very soon.”

Zhang Bei found a rag and began meticulously cleaning the room.

“Also, Mom… you left us early. I wanted to tell you that your son is about to have nearly thirty people working under him.”

As he spoke, Zhang Bei’s hands slowed down.

The tree craves peace but the wind will not subside; the son wishes to provide, but the parents are gone. His mother’s passing had been sudden, leaving Zhang Bei completely unprepared.

He had managed to pull through with his father’s companionship, but his father had spent a full six months in the hospital this time.

Cancer-a terminal illness that modern medicine was powerless against.

However, Zhang Bei didn’t dwell on his sadness for long. He closed his eyes and entered the System.

“Is it possible?”

“This System is the Amusement Park System, designed to allow the host to build a world-class Amusement Park.”

“You’re a System! A System!”

“This System does not possess the functions the host is imagining.”

A simple sentence shattered Zhang Bei’s fantasy.

But Zhang Bei was only testing the waters; he hadn’t held much hope to begin with.

He was well aware of the limitations of his own crappy System.

After tidying up the entire house and lighting incense for his parents, Zhang Bei finally fell asleep.

When the next day arrived, Zhang Bei headed to the Amusement Park early in the morning.
The Amusement Park, which he had neglected for a full six months, was finally back on track.

Seeing the attractions he had personally designed being enjoyed by wave after wave of tourists filled him with a sense of satisfaction. It was a feeling that had made him truly fall in love with this line of work.

As he approached the entrance of the Amusement Park, the first thing he saw was a woman crouching on the ground.

Recognizing the familiar figure, Zhang Bei’s pupils contracted slightly.

“Sister Nan?”

The woman heard his voice and looked up. “Xiao Bei, you’re here!”

This was the person Zhang Bei had called when the Amusement Park first reopened. Her name was Shen Nan, and she was around thirty years old.

Ever since graduating from junior high, she had followed her father, working tirelessly at this Amusement Park. She had been there from the beginning, when there were only a few rides, all the way until it became a large-scale Amusement Park.

It could be said that every ticket sold during Zhang Bei’s childhood was earned through Shen Nan’s hard work.

Zhang Bei hurried over to help Shen Nan up. “What are you doing here? If something’s wrong, you could have just called me.”

To his surprise, Shen Nan burst into tears. “I… I just didn’t know what else to do!”

Zhang Bei opened the gates of the Amusement Park and helped Shen Nan into the restaurant to sit down.

After a good ten minutes, Zhang Bei finally understood what had happened since he had closed the Amusement Park.

It all started when Shen Nan began looking for a new job.

For a woman nearly thirty who had only a junior high education and no experience in any other industry, finding a job in today’s society was an incredibly difficult task.

At that time, Shen Nan’s younger brother had fallen seriously ill. The surgery alone cost over two hundred thousand yuan, and with other expenses, the total came to five hundred thousand.

Since Zhang Bei had closed the Amusement Park and she had given all her savings to the hospital, Shen Nan had to find a stable job. After much hardship, she finally landed a position as a sales clerk at a supermarket. If she worked hard enough, she could make over five thousand yuan a month.

It was during that time that a handsome middle-aged man entered her life.

He was a white-collar worker with an annual salary of over three hundred thousand, single, owned a house and a car, and lived alone. One could say he was a real catch.

This man would go grocery shopping every day after work, and after a few encounters, the two became acquainted. Sometimes, he would even invite Shen Nan to his home for dinner.

Shen Nan’s brother’s surgery was a success, but the family was left with a hundred thousand yuan in debt. The man offered her the hundred thousand yuan but had Shen Nan sign a contract. He told her the money was his and she could pay him back slowly.

Having only finished junior high, Shen Nan naturally didn’t understand the legalities of the contract. Since they had known each other for over a month, she signed it without a second thought.

At first, things went well. Shen Nan made her payments on time, and the man acted as he always had. After six months of stability, however, the man suddenly vanished.

Before Shen Nan could even report him missing to the police, a group of uninvited guests arrived at her workplace. They shoved the contract in front of her face and told her she had two months left. If she couldn’t pay the remaining eighty thousand, they would seize her house. It was all clearly written in the contract.

During this period, Shen Nan had borrowed from every friend she had, but she had only managed to scrape together fifty thousand.

With no other options left, she had come to the Amusement Park.

Zhang Bei handed her his card. “Sister Nan, there’s a hundred thousand on this card. Take it for now.”

“No, no, I only need thirty thousand more. I can’t take that much.”

Zhang Bei shook his head. “Don’t worry about it. There’s no rush to pay it back. Once you’ve sorted everything out, come back to the Amusement Park. I’m planning to arrange a position for you.”
