Chapter 40

Doctor Li glanced at the woman’s complexion and gave a faint nod.

He signaled to the two nurses behind him to begin the examination. The ambulance was fully equipped; although the instruments were portable models, the check-up proceeded quickly.

In about ten minutes, Doctor Li had the results in hand. Looking at the irregular heart rate monitor printout, he shot a puzzled look at the woman.

“Have you taken any medication recently?”

The woman shook her head frantically. “No, I haven’t taken anything!”

Just as Doctor Li was about to write up a diagnosis, Zhang Bei leaned in.

“In that case, let’s start her on some Futadin first.”

Hearing Zhang Bei’s words, Doctor Li frowned. “Futadin is for treating…”

He stopped mid-sentence. Zhang Bei had been so blatant with his hint that there was no way he could fail to understand the implication.

Futadin was a targeted drug. As long as a patient hadn’t taken any hormonal medications for psychiatric disorders, a small dose would have no effect on the human body at all.

Doctor Li looked at the woman and sighed. “Fine, I’ll prescribe some Futadin then.”

With that, he pulled a bottle of medicine from the ambulance.

Zhang Bei pulled over the other doctor who had been watching the scene unfold. “If someone takes psychiatric medication first and then takes Futadin, what happens?”

The doctor looked at his boss, feeling somewhat speechless. “It would cause cerebral vascular rupture, leading to a massive brain hemorrhage.”

The two of them didn’t try to hide their conversation from the woman at all; or rather, it was said specifically for her benefit.

Doctor Li handed the pills to the woman. “Futadin. Two tablets.”

The woman’s face stiffened. She had heard everything Zhang Bei just said. She was backed into a corner now; if she continued to resist, she would be forced to take the medicine. If she didn’t resist, she would essentially be admitting that everything she did at the amusement park was premeditated.

The police were still standing right there. Even if she didn’t go to prison, she would at least face detention.

The woman remained silent for a long time before finally handing the medicine back to the doctor.

“I can’t take this medicine.”

The doctor simply nodded and climbed back into the ambulance. Before leaving, he glanced at Sister Nan.

The meaning was clear: his part was done, and the rest was up to them.

Sister Nan’s face was dark as she fixed her gaze on the woman.

“Fraud, and you even dared to bring it here! Come with me to the station and explain yourself!”

The woman secretly wiped away her tears and silently followed Sister Nan into the police car.

Xiao Li stood beside Zhang Bei. “Boss, I’ll need you to come to the station to give a statement.”

“Alright, I’ll go get my car.”

By the time Zhang Bei finished his statement, it was already noon. He drove back quickly, managed to return just as the cafeteria was opening for lunch.

“Boss, you’re done with the statement!”

“Boss, what happened to that woman?”

“Boss, is she going to be sentenced?”

Zhang Bei’s expression was somewhat somber. He only looked up when he heard his employees speaking.

“Li Yang, you did well today. You’ll get a bonus at the end of the month.”

“Thank you, Boss!”

Li Yang grinned and thanked Zhang Bei. The treatment at the amusement park had always been excellent, and Zhang Bei never oppressed them. Li Yang had already decided that this would be his career after graduation. An employee should always protect the company, no matter the circumstances.

Zhang Bei scanned the room. “I told the police to let that woman go.”

In a case like this, as long as Zhang Bei didn’t press charges, there was no way to convict her of fraud. The woman’s fate had been entirely in Zhang Bei’s hands.
“She has two children, and both of them have mental illnesses.”

There is a saying that pitiable people must have a hateful side, but the reverse is also true.

If she hadn’t been driven to a dead end, who would willingly take the risk of taking that kind of medicine?

Zhang Bei’s words caused the crowd to fall silent.

Mental illness meant they couldn’t take care of themselves.

If Zhang Bei chose to pursue the matter, the woman would be detained for at least fifteen days.

Two helpless children who couldn’t look after themselves-it was hard to imagine what would happen to them for those fifteen days after losing their only mother.

Zhang Bei did not choose to pursue the matter further, but it wasn’t simply because the woman’s life was hard.

Regardless of the circumstances, what the woman had done crossed a line.

Mental illness is one of the most unstable conditions; you never know which unexpected accident might cost a patient their life.

Zhang Bei simply wanted to give those two children a chance to see a bit more of the world.

“Boss, you’re a truly good person.”

“Boss, you’re so kind.”

“Boss, you’re so virtuous.”

Hearing the voices around him, Zhang Bei rolled his eyes.

He didn’t even have a girlfriend yet, and here he was, collecting a whole stack of “good person cards.”

The next two days were uneventful until the third day arrived.

Zhang Bei sat in the Toy House, squinting as he scrolled through the System Mall.

Dingyang City was located in a sub-temperate zone and was about to enter the rainy season.

Continuous rain was expected to last for about a week.

Zhang Bei planned to take advantage of the current time to save up more Emotional Value so he could perform a major overhaul of the Amusement Park during the rainy season.

It was currently summer break. Once the upcoming rainy season passed, August would be the peak time for college students to go out and have fun.

In other words, the Amusement Park was about to welcome its largest wave of foot traffic.

Both the facilities and the staff had to keep up.

The facilities relied on the System; as long as he had enough Emotional Value, they weren’t a problem.

However, the staff situation was giving Zhang Bei a headache.

Currently, the employees at the Amusement Park were recruited and signed to contracts one by one. But now that schools were on break, finding suitable staff was as difficult as reaching the heavens.

After contemplating for a long time, Zhang Bei’s eyes lit up. He found Li Yang, who was currently transporting tourists.

He handed over the keys to the Amusement Park’s main gate. “You close up today. Find someone to keep an eye on the Dollhouse.”

Before he finished speaking, his figure was already heading toward the exit.

Forty minutes later, Zhang Bei’s mouth twitched as he looked at a gate covered in balloons.

Ten minutes after that, Zhang Bei was wandering expressionlessly through this Fantasy Amusement Park.

The entire park was filled with a thick fairy-tale atmosphere.

However, Zhang Bei could tell one thing for certain: this park had very few repeat customers. Most of the people here were first-timers.

Getting off the Roller Coaster with a blank face, Zhang Bei walked quickly to wait in line for the Drop Tower.

The Roller Coaster hadn’t felt thrilling or intense at all; it just felt like a cool breeze blowing past.

After experiencing all the facilities in the park, Zhang Bei sighed softly.

This was the tragedy of most modern amusement parks.

For over twenty years, most people had long since lost interest in traditional rides like Roller Coasters and Ferris Wheels.

For an amusement park to be profitable, both the ticket prices and the foot traffic had to reach a certain level.

Overall, most amusement parks nowadays were in a state of decline.

It was common for expenses to exceed income. There were many reasons why Disney could survive, but even they were losing money on the amusement park side of their business alone.

Zhang Bei did a full circuit of the park and identified several employees who worked hard and had decent attitudes.

Countless couples were showing affection on the Ferris Wheel.

Zhang Bei hummed a little tune and pressed the red button.
