Chapter 37

Now that the amusement park was empty, it was time for the System to show its power.

After purchasing the renovation rights for the Giant Swing, Zhang Bei held the blueprints in his hand. “System, let’s begin.”

[Renovation of the Giant Swing initiated. The construction crew will arrive in five minutes. Estimated time: one hour.]

Zhang Bei stood at the entrance of the amusement park and soon saw a van pull up. Several men carrying tools jumped out and headed straight for the Giant Swing.

From start to finish, they showed no intention of communicating with Zhang Bei at all.

A black cloth was hoisted up, and the workers began their construction. Zhang Bei’s mouth twitched. *Good grief, these guys have incredible night vision.*

The lights in the amusement park weren’t even on, leaving the area shrouded in darkness. Yet, this didn’t seem to hinder their work in the slightest.

After waiting for only half an hour, the black cloth was torn down. The workers packed up their tools and headed toward the exit.

Watching their mechanical movements, Zhang Bei once again doubted the intelligence of the System. *Is my System some kind of idiot? Even the workers it finds look a bit dim-witted.*

As if hearing his internal complaint, the System’s familiar voice rang in his ear.

[Trial Run Mission: A good amusement ride requires a trial run. Please invite ten tourists to experience it.]

The new Giant Swing was already complete. From the outside, it looked like a massive wheel with a smaller wheel nested inside it.

Zhang Bei stared at it for a moment before turning to leave the amusement park.

The next day, the flashing lights on the Giant Swing immediately caught everyone’s attention. The Giant Swing was essentially an upgraded version of a pirate ship ride.

While everyone was discussing it, Zhang Bei’s voice rang out from behind them.

“Since you’re all here, why don’t you hop on and give it a try? Think of it as some pre-meal exercise.”

Chef Li’s expression remained calm. “Boss, I’ve got a dish stewing in the kitchen. I’ll be going now.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, his figure vanished from Zhang Bei’s sight.

Seeing Chef Li make a run for it, the other chefs nearby instantly froze.

“Boss, I’m currently stir-frying something in the kitchen.”

“Boss, I have soup simmering!”

Zhang Bei nodded slightly. “It’s fine. Chef Li has already gone back. You guys can play with peace of mind.”

You Bai struggled with great difficulty to tear her gaze away from the Giant Swing. “Boss, I… I’m not feeling up to it these couple of days.”

Zhang Bei raised an eyebrow. “Fine then. Make sure to get some rest and don’t overwork yourself.”

Gu Yue’s eyes lit up when she saw You Bai step aside. “Boss, I-”

“You aren’t on your period. I know.”

Seeing Zhang Bei’s certain gaze, Gu Yue instantly wilted. Unable to find any other excuse, the remaining people were ushered onto the Giant Swing by Zhang Bei.

Zhang Bei glanced around. “Where’s Li Yang?”

Gu Yue braced herself as she looked at the safety belt strapped across her. “Li Yang is off today.”

Zhang Bei sighed. “That’s a real shame.”

With that, he started the Giant Swing, and music began to play. As a ride that could rival the Drop Tower, the Giant Swing naturally featured a heavy sense of weightlessness.

However, Zhang Bei’s design this time was even more unique than usual.

If the Drop Tower gave people the clear knowledge that they weren’t in any real danger, the Giant Swing felt like it was going to hurl you out every time it soared into the air.

The small wheel started up, accelerating continuously along the track of the large wheel.

The people sitting in the chairs turned pale, gripping their safety belts tightly.

Indeed, Zhang Bei’s design this time did not include any handrails.
The entire Giant Swing was built strictly according to the laws of mechanics; that single small seatbelt was more than enough.

To heighten the thrill, Zhang Bei had simply removed the armrests from the seats.

The Giant Swing was currently performing a high-speed circular motion in a counter-clockwise direction.

Five minutes passed in a flash, and the Giant Swing underwent an instantaneous transformation.

The outer wheel surrounding the ride began to expand continuously, like a Transformer.

As the Giant Swing continued its circular path along the wheel, it began to climb higher and higher.

Just as it was about to reach the very top, the outer ring suddenly split open.

The entire Giant Swing shot into the sky. From their seats, the riders could clearly see the horror unfolding.

The connection in the center had severed. The riders, along with the Giant Swing itself, flew higher and higher.

As long-time employees of the Amusement Park, they immediately realized that they had already surpassed the height of the Drop Tower.

They were nearly a hundred meters in the air!

Gravity then took hold, sending the Giant Swing plummeting toward the ground.

In that moment of descent, everyone’s mind went blank.

Gu Yue thought of her high-level Penguin IM account and her drawer full of makeup. There was no one left to inherit them.

A few seconds later, the Giant Swing landed perfectly back onto the severed joint and resumed its circular motion.

This cycle repeated ten times before the large outer wheel finally began to shrink, and the Giant Swing gradually came to a halt.

When their knees finally touched the ground, they had never felt that life was so beautiful.

Zhang Bei looked at the spectacular sight before him and resisted the urge to take out his phone for a photo.

Nearly twenty people were kneeling in a neat row right in front of him.

Gu Yue looked up at Zhang Bei, her eyes rolled back, and she fainted on the spot.

The doctor beside her was constantly trying to control his breathing and regulate his heartbeat.

The group remained kneeling for a full two minutes before they finally managed to use the surrounding railings to pull themselves up.

As for the doctor, he staggered over to Gu Yue one shaky step at a time.

He peeled back her eyelid with one hand and checked carefully, confirming she had simply fainted from extreme shock.

Zhang Bei cleared his throat. “Since you can all walk now, go get some food.”

Pair after pair of resentful eyes turned toward Zhang Bei, making him shiver involuntarily.

“This reward was something Li Yang fought to get for you. If you want to thank someone, thank him.”

The few who had just regained their senses immediately found a target for their debt.

A voice ground out from between clenched teeth.

“I’ll definitely give him a proper ‘thank you’ tonight!”

“Hehehe, count me in. I’ve got a big gift prepared for him!”

The doctor helped Gu Yue to her feet. “I have a gift for him too.”

As the saying goes, the urge to kill someone is impossible to hide in one’s eyes.

Looking at those dozen or so pairs of eyes, Zhang Bei silently offered a prayer for Li Yang.

Walking ahead to the restaurant, Zhang Bei took a tray from Chef Li.

Looking at the empty space behind Zhang Bei, Chef Li scratched his head.

“Where is everyone?”

Zhang Bei cleared his throat. “Probably another five minutes. Their movement speed is a bit slow.”

The employees Chef Li was asking about had already formed a mutual-aid group.

They were huddled together, shoulders draped over each other, shuffling toward the Cafeteria one heavy step at a time.

They had no choice; everyone’s legs were still like jelly. This was the fastest they could move.

Peeling an egg with one hand, Zhang Bei immersed his consciousness into his mind.

[Trial Mission Complete. Reward: Functional Protective Suit.]

He checked the delivery location for the mission reward; it was inside the Toy House.

Zhang Bei was in no rush to claim it and sat quietly in his chair, finishing his meal.
