Chapter 31

With an idea in mind, Zhang Bei turned and headed back to the Monitoring Room. He pulled out a pen and paper and began sketching a design.

A small cart wasn’t particularly complicated to design; within half an hour, the blueprints were ready in his hands.

He sent the design to a factory and arranged a delivery location. Zhang Bei leaned back in his chair and let out a long stretch.

Suddenly, a sharp alarm blared.

Zhang Bei frowned and pushed open the door with one hand.

In an instant, he felt a sharp pain in his wrist, and his entire body was suddenly lifted into the air.

By the time his consciousness cleared, he was already pinned to the ground.

“Start talking. Where did you hide the bodies?”

Hearing the voice by his ear, Zhang Bei struggled to turn his head.

What met his eyes was a beautiful police officer with a sharp, imposing aura.

“What bodies?”

Even though he was pinned to the ground, Zhang Bei’s attention was momentarily captured by the female officer.

“Still trying to play dumb? Xiao Li, show him the video!”

As she spoke, she gave Zhang Bei’s arm a forceful twist.

“Ow, ow, ow!”

The officer addressed as Xiao Li handed over a phone, his voice kept low.

“Sister Nan, take it easy. If we’ve got this wrong, we’re really going to end up in the Traffic Police Department!”

Indeed, these two weren’t local precinct officers, but criminal investigators who had been demoted time and time again.

Xiao Li had followed Sister Nan on three missions.

The first time, a drug dealer ended up with fifteen fractures across his body, and the two of them were transferred out of the Major Crimes Unit.

The second time, a psychiatric patient holding a hostage was left with a permanent disability because of her intervention.

The third time was today-after seeing a report, Sister Nan had dragged him straight to the Amusement Park.

Sister Nan huffed, ignoring Xiao Li. She tapped on the video with one hand and held it in front of Zhang Bei.

“Speak. Where did this cartload of bodies go?”

Zhang Bei focused on the phone screen. Looking at the footage, he let out a bitter laugh.

“You’ve got it all wrong. Those are all special effects.”

“Huh?”

Seeing the confusion on the female officer behind him, Zhang Bei gently nudged his arm.

“Can you let me go first?”

Xiao Li pulled Sister Nan aside and hurriedly apologized to Zhang Bei.

“I’m so sorry, we were too impulsive. Please, don’t file a complaint.”

“It’s fine. You were just doing your jobs.”

Zhang Bei didn’t actually blame them. Any police officer’s first instinct upon seeing that footage would be to apprehend the suspect. It was just that some would gather evidence first, while others preferred direct action.

Standing to the side, Sister Nan seemed to have reached a conclusion.

“No. You have to take me to see it. Who knows if you’re lying?”

Zhang Bei sighed. “It’s just a game attraction. Follow me.”

Sister Nan kept her eyes locked on Zhang Bei as they walked all the way to the entrance of the Underground Maze.

Zhang Bei selected a path. “It’s right here. Put on these glasses and go inside; you’ll see what’s going on.”

Sister Nan nodded. “Xiao Li, watch him. I’m going in to check it out.”

As soon as the words left her mouth, she gripped her sidearm and walked straight inside.

Watching Sister Nan’s figure disappear, Xiao Li’s face was filled with helplessness.

It was over. If they got demoted again, they really would be standing in the middle of the street directing traffic for the Traffic Police Department.

Since there was no point just standing there, Zhang Bei led Xiao Li back to the Monitoring Room.

Since the female officer didn’t believe him, he decided to let her experience the same path Tianyu had gone through.

After a few adjustments, he ensured that every setting was cranked up to maximum difficulty.

Half an hour later, Zhang Bei looked at the screen showing Sister Nan curled up in a corner, shivering. He patted his face and picked up the phone.

“Passage 35. Please go and pick someone up.”

The call was to the Doctor, who was currently busy pushing his little cart to transport tourists.
After hanging up the phone, the doctor let out a silent sigh.

He glanced at the signs in the passage and pushed open a concealed door.

Unsurprisingly, Sister Nan-who had been scared out of her wits by a group of vengeful ghosts-fainted the moment she saw the doctor.

The doctor’s face darkened when he saw her uniform. “Holy crap, isn’t this the police officer who just arrived?”

He hurried forward to perform a quick checkup.

He breathed a sigh of relief once he confirmed there was nothing seriously wrong with her.

Looking at the service pistol lying discarded on the side, the doctor suddenly felt a wave of lingering fear.

Damn, if she hadn’t fainted just now, would she have opened fire?

Name: Wang Qingshan. Age of death: twenty-eight?

He shuddered at the thought, hoisted Sister Nan onto a gurney, and hurried toward the exit with her pistol in hand.

Xiao Li was also startled when he saw the doctor carrying the gun.

He quickly asked Zhang Bei to lead the way so he could meet them. After the handoff, Xiao Li carried Sister Nan on his back, leaving the amusement park one heavy step at a time.

Watching the two figures disappear, the dull ache in Zhang Bei’s shoulder finally eased a little.

His phone suddenly rang. Zhang Bei raised an eyebrow when he saw the caller ID.

“Heizi, what’s up?”

“Where are you?”

“The amusement park.”

“Wait for me, I’m almost there!”

Before Zhang Bei could ask anything else, the call was disconnected.

In less than fifteen minutes, Heizi appeared at the amusement park.

“Hurry up and sign this document.”

Zhang Bei rubbed his nose as he looked at the papers Heizi handed over. “What’s the situation?”

Heizi let out a cold sneer. “We’re filing for arbitration at the International Court. The hearing is in one month.”

Zhang Bei was stunned. “That fast?”

Heizi laughed. “Tang Dou has a massive fan base. Our team now has everyone from lawyers to international business experts.”

Zhang Bei signed the documents and handed them back to Heizi. “Let me know when there’s a result.”

Heizi waved his hand and walked out in a hurry.

Zhang Bei stroked his chin, turned around, and picked up his phone to search for the video of that year’s competition.

He glanced at the progress bar; it was a full thirty minutes long.

He sat down in a chair and began to watch it slowly.

The video soon reached You Bai’s race. The venue was a standard track, so there were certainly no issues there.

Zhang Bei focused his attention on the moment You Bai was falsely accused of a foul.

Halfway through the race, You Bai was leading the second-place skier by two full body lengths.

It was at this exact moment that the third-place Bangzi athlete suddenly wiped out.

You Bai swerved to the side to avoid a collision.

When a snowboard is gliding at high speeds, changing direction requires crouching low and using one’s entire body weight to maintain control.

In official competitions, there is a very clear rule: you cannot touch the ground with your hands, or it counts as a foul.

The acceleration of the second-place athlete happened to block the high-speed camera on the side.

In the video, one could only see You Bai’s silhouette crouched slightly.

They judged You Bai to have fouled based on just this video?

Zhang Bei found it unbelievable. He had long known that the Bangzi referees were blind, but he hadn’t expected them to be this shameless.

Although the video didn’t show whether You Bai’s hand actually touched the ground, given You Bai’s height, it was impossible for a crouch of that degree to reach the surface.

This wasn’t just a matter of a bad call; it was the referees committing fraud.

It was no wonder You Bai had been banned for talking back to the officials.

After contemplating for a long while, Zhang Bei grabbed his phone and headed toward the Ski Resort.

Although the Ski Resort was still packed with people, the crowd had decreased by more than half compared to the first two days.

A large portion of the foot traffic had been diverted by the Maze, and most of the remaining tourists were just there to catch a glimpse of a world champion.

Zhang Bei stepped into the Ski Resort and quickly located You Bai. It was easy enough to find him-you just had to look for where the tourists were most densely gathered.
