Chapter 25
Zhang Bei let out a sigh of relief and gave a wry smile as he looked at the depleted popularity points.
The construction of the maze was to complete the System’s task.
Of course, preventing the loss of visitors was also an important reason.
If the queue time was too long, most visitors definitely wouldn’t come a second time.
There were only two ways to solve this problem.
Either add more amusement facilities, or hold year-round, non-stop events.
It wasn’t until the construction of the maze was finished and the System released the trial task that Zhang Bei finally left the Amusement Park and drove home.
The next morning, Zhang Bei arrived early at the Cafeteria to wait for the staff.
You Bai was the first to step through the Cafeteria doors. Zhang Bei, sipping his soy milk, greeted You Bai and asked her to sit down.
“You mentioned last time that you had friends who wanted to work here?”
You Bai nodded. “Boss, are you planning to hire more people?”
“Yes, I’m planning to hire three more people to take care of the new facility.”
Li Yang’s figure walked in from outside the door. “There’s a new facility?”
“The Underground Maze. Want to try it?”
Hearing Zhang Bei’s words, Li Yang shrank his neck. “No way, my little heart can’t take it!”
You Bai, holding her phone, looked at Zhang Bei. “Should I notify them to come for an interview now?”
Zhang Bei paused for a moment. “Alright, notify them now.”
According to the plan, the trial of the maze would be held this morning, and it would be easy to gather a hundred visitors.
Normal operations would start in the afternoon, so there would be time for interviews in between.
After breakfast, it was time to open for business.
After a day of rest due to rain, the Amusement Park welcomed a large crowd of visitors as soon as it opened.
Following the visitors, Zhang Bei stood above the Ski Resort.
“New project trial! First come, first served for one hundred people!”
Zhang Bei’s voice instantly attracted a large crowd.
“Me, me, me! Boss, don’t forget me!”
Hearing a familiar voice, Zhang Bei quickly locked onto the source.
Qingqing was holding up her phone, squeezed by the crowd.
Zhang Bei quickly selected a hundred people and led them to the Equipment Warehouse.
There was already a Small Hut here, looking extremely dilapidated from the outside.
He casually pulled it open, and as the sensor light turned on, a Staircase leading underground appeared before their eyes.
“Underground Maze, one hour experience time.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhang Bei stepped aside to reveal the passage.
Qingqing shrank her neck and glanced down at her livestream room.
“I’m already here, can I turn off the stream now?”
Changkong: [No way, you have to clear it!]
March Squid: [You must clear it!]
Onii: [If you don’t clear it, I’m unfollowing!]
Seeing the barrage of comments, Qingqing’s face darkened. “Enough, you guys! This is a maze, the boss can’t possibly let me film, right?”
“It’s fine, just put on the glasses and get in there.”
Zhang Bei’s calm voice cut off Qingqing’s last escape route.
“Boss!”
“No need to thank me.”
Qingqing’s face turned even darker. She sighed silently and took the glasses from Zhang Bei.
But ever since she learned the true nature of the Ski Resort, Qingqing wasn’t too worried.
If things really got bad, she could just take off the glasses. No matter what, the boss couldn’t possibly put real zombies in there!
Watching everyone enter the maze, Zhang Bei took out a small Microphone from behind him.
“Rule one: All visitors, your glasses are equipped with positioning. Please do not remove them at will to avoid getting lost in the maze.”
“Rule two: If you find yourself unable to find the way for a long time, you can try going back.”
“Rule three: After one hour, please walk straight ahead and you will naturally exit.”
Zhang Bei’s voice echoed throughout the entire maze via the Loudspeaker.
Qingqing’s hand froze as she reached up to her ear.
Feixue: [Hahaha, the boss really thinks of everything!]
Changkong: [The boss closed a door for you, and then cemented the window shut.]
March Squid: [Qingqing, just go! It’s only an hour!]
Qingqing took a deep breath, holding her phone carefully as she walked forward.
Given the boss’s scheming personality, this Underground Maze definitely wasn’t just a simple path-finding game.
No one knew what might happen with each step forward.
Only two minutes had passed when the first change in the Underground Maze finally arrived.
A faint, barely audible music drifted through the Underground Maze.
Accompanying the music, footsteps mysteriously sounded behind Qingqing.
“Who’s behind me?”
Under the dim lights, Qingqing stared intently at the corner nearby.
She waited for more than ten seconds; the footsteps faded, and there wasn’t a single shadow around.
Qingqing shivered, quickly turned her head, and continued forward.
She had barely taken a few steps when the footsteps sounded again behind her.
“Stream Viewers, is someone behind me?”
Changkong: [Damn, stop talking and hurry up!]
March Squid: [Go, go, this is too scary!]
Qingqing Guardian: [Qingqing, wait for me, I’ll come find you!]
Qingqing trembled, quickening her pace.
Soon, the first fork appeared ahead.
Three identical passages lay before her.
Frowning, Qingqing chose the middle one, following her usual maze habits.
The lights in the passage flickered, and strange symbols were drawn on the walls.
As she walked deeper, the symbols gradually turned into words.
With each flash of light, scattered words came into view.
[If you see me, you’ll die!]
The blood-red words made Qingqing pause.
Her body instinctively leaned against the opposite wall.
Suddenly, a voice sounded by her ear.
“Hehehe, I finally found you!”
The man’s voice shattered the last line of defense in Qingqing’s heart.
Tears sprang from her eyes, and her legs exploded with power as she dashed down the passage.
The man who stepped out from the wall reached out, trying to grab the fleeing Qingqing. But all that remained before him were the blood-red words.
The man was a Stream Viewer from the live room; his name was Qingqing Guardian.
After comparing several times, he realized the mechanisms in the passage allowed entry into another corridor.
It might have seemed easy for him to find Qingqing, but it was all luck. His passage happened to be next to Qingqing’s, and this section’s mechanism had no traps.
Qingqing’s sprint didn’t last long; after rounding a corner, she leaned against the wall.
A hidden door in the wall flipped instantly, and in the blink of an eye, she landed in a new place.
Before Qingqing could even take in her new surroundings, her hand pressed onto something.
She followed the flickering light with her gaze.
A skull appeared before her eyes.
Her scream echoed through the corridor again.
Her legs, like a motor, propelled her away again.
As the designer, Zhang Bei was sitting in the Monitoring Room, watching the overview of the Underground Maze.
A hundred visitors in a maze that could hold thousands were like waves in the ocean.
But watching Qingqing’s ordeal, Zhang Bei felt as if some mysterious force was at work.
The first half of the maze was supposed to have few scares, yet Qingqing encountered them all.
