Chapter 18
The shadow seemed to hear Qingqing’s complaints and slowly turned its head.
A bloody, mangled face instantly appeared before her eyes.
Qingqing’s pupils contracted, and her legs trembled.
“H-Help!”
In that moment, Qingqing burst forth with unimaginable energy.
Her skis accelerated at once, shooting straight down the mountain.
Changkong (comment): [At this speed, she could be a World Champion, right?]
March Squid (comment): [As expected, human potential really is forced out.]
Qingqing quickly left the shadow far behind and finally let out a sigh of relief.
Suddenly, a voice sounded by her ear again.
“You stepped on my hand!”
Qingqing turned her head stiffly. A woman lay on the ground, tongue lolling out.
There was a large hole in her stomach, and her tongue draped over her chest.
This time, there was no chance to accelerate with her skis again. In a split second, Qingqing found her solution.
Run!
She grabbed her skis with one hand and dashed down the mountain.
Zhang Bei was sipping hot tea, watching figures arrive one after another before him.
He couldn’t help but smile.
Even if someone were twenty minutes slower, they’d still make it down.
But after Zhang Bei made a round, Qingqing was still nowhere to be seen.
The doctor sitting nearby looked worried. “She hasn’t gotten into trouble, has she?”
Zhang Bei thought about it- the snow was extra thick, and Qingqing was wearing protective gear.
Even if she fell, nothing serious should happen.
“It’s fine, maybe she’s just slow because she’s inexperienced.”
The two waited another ten minutes, but there was still no sign of Qingqing.
Zhang Bei picked up the walkie-talkie and pressed the button.
“You Bai, can you hear me?”
“Yes, boss. What’s up?”
“Someone hasn’t come down from track two. Go take a look.”
“Okay!”
You Bai was quick. In less than five minutes, she found the missing Qingqing.
But the scene before her was truly beyond comprehension.
Qingqing was dragging her skis, running frantically through the snow.
Her face was streaked with tears.
“Help! Don’t chase me, I was wrong!”
You Bai was stunned by what she saw and maneuvered her skis to follow behind Qingqing.
Five minutes later, Zhang Bei watched as Qingqing ran all the way down the slope and immediately fell silent.
How did the skis become just a prop?
The doctor stood by, eyes filled with despair.
Should I go back to school and study psychiatry again?
The poor girl’s been scared to tears!
You Bai scratched her head, her face full of embarrassment.
She had just been caught up in watching, and ended up watching Qingqing run all the way down.
The awkward silence didn’t last long before Zhang Bei handed the stretcher to the doctor.
“Take her to rest.”
The doctor sighed quietly and helped Qingqing onto the stretcher.
Just as Qingqing appeared, a notification from the System followed immediately.
[Trial mission completed. Reward: Promotion Card.]
[Promotion Card: Choose a project to promote; the System will automatically select a suitable person for one round of promotion.]
Zhang Bei glanced at the tourists, most of whom had already recovered, and picked up the walkie-talkie again.
“Li Yang, let the Ski Resort know it’s open for business.”
“Copy that, boss!”
You Bai scratched her head, standing on her skis. “What about pricing?”
Zhang Bei thought for a moment. “One hundred yuan for half an hour. This facility uses a lot of electricity.”
You Bai nodded and turned to head up the slope.
Zhang Bei made another cup of hot tea, observing the tourists’ reactions.
On the other side, in the so-called ‘Morgue’, Qingqing finally felt the sunlight and returned to reality.
Looking at the still-running livestream, Qingqing almost burst into tears.
It was over.
Now, not to mention her image, she had lost everything!
But the Stream Viewers were obviously the type who enjoyed watching the chaos.
Changkong: [Hahaha, Qingqing, this is probably the most exercise you’ve had in the past month, right?]
March Squid: [I’m dying of laughter. If you’re going to call for help, you might as well just go down already!]
Qingqing scrolled through the livestream chat, her face growing darker and darker.
“I just wasn’t prepared. Next time, I’ll clear it in ten minutes!”
Qingqing Guardian: [Are you planning to perform an opera, planting so many flags on yourself?]
Tuchong: [Stop it, it’ll be even more embarrassing if you end up lying down again next time!]
Changkong: [The Drop Tower is more your style. Stop running around!]
Seeing the chat full of mockery, Qingqing’s face turned even darker.
But she wasn’t stupid. Even if she wanted to clear the level, she needed to take a break-at least until she calmed down.
Zhang Bei spent the whole day keeping an eye on the issues at the Ski Resort.
But most people’s reactions were normal: when faced with excitement, they just sped up.
Qingqing was just a special case.
At dinner, with the new employee Chef Li, there was an extra meat dish.
This made Li Yang especially happy-he ate three big bowls of rice in a row.
After sending off the employees and closing the Amusement Park gates,
Standing in front of the Amusement Park entrance, Zhang Bei started to seriously consider whether he should buy a car for commuting.
Late at night, a sudden, urgent phone call woke Zhang Bei up.
“Hello?”
“Boss, Xu Qian hasn’t come back yet. Can you get in touch with her?”
Hearing Chef Li’s voice, Zhang Bei instantly became alert.
“What’s going on?”
“Li Yang and the others said they can’t reach Xu Qian.”
Zhang Bei rubbed his temples and quickly got dressed.
“Don’t panic. Ask them if they know what happened.”
He hung up and quickly scrolled through his contacts to make another call.
“Heizi, drive over here. I need to borrow your car.”
“What’s wrong?”
“A student is missing. I need to go look for her.”
“Okay, I’ll be right there!”
Just as he hung up with Heizi, Chef Li called again.
“Boss, I found out. Xu Qian was dumped by her boyfriend and went out drinking by herself.”
Hearing this, Zhang Bei felt an even bigger headache.
“Do you know where she went?”
“Li Yang said he seemed to hear her mention a bar-something called Red Rose.”
Zhang Bei didn’t have to wait long before Heizi’s Maybach screeched to a stop in front of him.
“Get in!”
Zhang Bei opened the door and got into the passenger seat.
“Head to Qingyuan Bar first.”
Heizi nodded, and the million-yuan car roared to life, speeding off in an instant.
The road was clear, and in the blink of an eye, they arrived at the bar.
Qingyuan Bar was a quiet bar-a place where you could enjoy a drink and listen to music.
There were usually two Red Roses placed on each table.
After negotiating with the bartender, Zhang Bei found no sign of Xu Qian.
He sighed and started thinking about other places with Red Roses.
Suddenly, Heizi spoke up.
“Aren’t you overthinking it? She’s just a student. Even if she wanted to drink, she wouldn’t come to a place like this.”
Zhang Bei was stunned, and his face darkened even more.
“Fire Red!”
Heizi realized too: “Damn, let’s go!”
Fire Red was a low-cost little bar, but it was a mixed bag-anyone could be found there.
After visiting once, Zhang Bei and Heizi had never gone back.
And hanging on the sign of that bar was a Red Rose.
