Chapter 4
Chapter 4
At the main gates of the Marquis Manor, Liu Wenying lay collapsed by the stone lion, her eyes tightly shut and her body unconscious. She was dressed in a simple, plain gown.
The Marquis Manor faced a long bluestone street, and passersby were already pointing and whispering about her.
She had arrived in the early morning and had been waiting at the gates ever since, claiming she wanted to apologize to me.
“Didn’t I tell you to send her back!” Zhao Shuo barked at the gatekeeper as he rushed to help Liu Wenying up.
The servant broke into a cold sweat. “I tried to persuade her many times, but Miss Liu insisted on staying…”

“I wanted to apologize to the Madam in person. A lowly, ill-fated woman like Wenying crashed the Madam’s birthday banquet… My heart is filled with nothing but guilt…”
Liu Wenying spoke with a breath as thin as silk before fainting once more in Zhao Shuo’s arms.
Zhao Shuo scooped her up immediately.
“What are you standing there for? Go get a doctor!”
He shouted at the nearby servant, then hurried toward the guest rooms with Liu Wenying in his arms, acting as if I, standing right behind him, didn’t even exist.
