Chapter 5
Chapter 5
My thoughts snapped back to the present.
Ignoring Pei Yi, who stood there dazed, I headed back to the Debate Club with the milk tea in hand. Chen Zhinan was nowhere to be seen.
Because I had been delayed for so long by Pei Yi, a younger student snatched the bag from my hand with an attitude.
“Both Presidents went to help you, yet you still took forever just to pick up some milk tea. Is there anything you can actually do well besides dating?”
I suppressed my anger. “You’re a freshman and I’m a junior. Don’t they teach you how to address your seniors? If you can’t even show basic respect to people, what exactly can you do well?”
She choked on her words, then slammed the milk tea onto the table with a loud thud. Suddenly, she let out a sharp cry.
“One cup is missing! It turns out our dear ‘Senior’ isn’t just good at dating-she’s a thief who steals deliveries too!”
She spoke with a smug expression, putting a heavy, mocking emphasis on the word “Senior.”
Her voice was so loud that everyone turned their heads to stare at me.
“No way. Just because there wasn’t one for her, she stole a drink on the way back?”
“So she only came back to the Debate Club to steal our delivery? And here I thought she was being so helpful earlier.”
Xu Yan kept her head down, the corners of her mouth curling slightly. She had no intention of speaking up for me.
I tried to explain. “One cup accidentally spilled just now. I’ve already bought a replacement; I’ll go pick it up as soon as it arrives.”
The girl curled her lip and grumbled, “You can’t even carry milk tea without spilling it? You can’t handle such a simple task, and now things are awkward because we’re short a cup. You’re just wasting everyone’s time.”
I flushed with embarrassment.
“Actually, I’m the one who accidentally spilled it earlier. Classmate Song shouldn’t have to take the fall for me.”
A familiar voice rang out, instantly silencing the noisy meeting room.
I turned around. It was Chen Zhinan, who had previously disappeared.
He looked like he had just jogged over; sweat beaded on his forehead, and he was slightly out of breath.
He shook the two bottles of sparkling water in his hand. “You guys enjoy the milk tea. She and I will just drink these.”
He shoved a bottle of sparkling water into my hand, his tone strictly professional.
“It was buy-one-get-one-free.”
“Don’t read into it. If I didn’t step in, this whole milk tea drama would have dragged on for half an hour. You know how much I hate people wasting my time.”
I stared at the sparkling water in my hand, momentarily stunned. It was White Peach Oolong, my favorite flavor. He… still remembered.
Suddenly, a cup of milk tea was held out in front of me. Xu Yan smiled with an air of complete innocence.
“I really love this flavor of sparkling water. Can I trade my milk tea for yours?”
I doubted she actually liked the flavor; she just liked the fact that Chen Zhinan was the one who bought it.
Everyone’s eyes were fixed on us.
The glares from several girls were as sharp as knives, as if they would kick me out the door the second I dared to refuse.
I was caught between a rock and a hard place.

When the chandelier came crashing down, Pei Yi pushed me toward death to protect another woman.
As I lay there, blood streaming from my head, I was so happy I could have bashed my skull...
