Chapter 2

Instead of being upset, I let out a massive sigh of relief.

Thank goodness… he didn’t save me.

Because this was the Intruder’s last chance.

“Mission failed. Host will be terminated.”

The System’s electronic voice rang out.

I felt her presence gradually fading away. I reached up, trying to touch the wound on my head.

Oh my god, I actually did it!

That Intruder had occupied my body for two years!

Two whole years! Do you have any idea how I lived through those two years?!

“Hahahaha!”

I couldn’t stop myself from laughing hysterically.

With blood streaming down my face, I ran three laps around the private room.

I was so happy I started banging my head against the wall.

Pei Yi stared at me, dumbfounded.

Everyone thought he had driven me insane, and they all tried to comfort me.

“Sister-in-law, take it easy.”

I laughed even harder until I caught a hitch in my breath and blacked out.

When I woke up in the hospital, I still had a smile on my face.

To my surprise, I saw Pei Yi sitting by the hospital bed.

He set up the overbed table and opened some takeout. “Not dead yet?”

I ignored him. Even the bland hospital food tasted so good I was moved to tears.

Two years! I hadn’t eaten a real meal in two whole years!

Pei Yi let out a mocking laugh. “You’re this touched just because I bought you a meal?”

Idiot.

As if he’d suddenly found his conscience, Pei Yi started acting attentive toward me.

He carefully blew on some chicken soup to cool it down.

“You know Xu Yan, right? She’s in the Debate Club with you. Introduce us; I want to pursue her.”

I let out a cold sneer.

So that was it. No wonder he was acting so out of character today.

He had always been like this-giving me a sweet treat whenever he needed something from me.

And I used to follow him around like a pathetic dog.

When it came to me, he always took my devotion for granted.

Unfortunately, the woman who prioritized him above all else was gone.

A sharp crack echoed as my hand met his face.

I had been wanting to land that slap for three years.

So satisfying!

He froze, his tongue poking the inside of his reddened cheek before he forced a smile.

“You’re getting quite good at imitating her.”

A bone-chilling gaze fell upon me.

“But the more you try to be like her, the more I find you disgusting.”

Imitate your mother, you freak. What kind of delusion are you having?

Returning to the Debate Club felt like a lifetime ago.

The members, gathered for their routine Saturday meeting, looked at me standing in the doorway with shock.

I fidgeted with my hands, feeling uneasy. “I’m not late, am I?”

Someone let out a cold snort. “Isn’t Lovesick Song at the wrong door? Why aren’t you off serving your boyfriend? What are you doing here at our Debate Club?”

I didn’t dare talk back.

It was only natural for them to hate me.

During the International Chinese Debate Competition, the Intruder had walked out in the middle of the match because of a single phone call from Pei Yi.

That day, I was the fourth speaker.

Because of my desertion, our school lost miserably.

The joke was that when I rushed to the scene, I found Pei Yi-who had claimed to be in unbearable stomach pain over the phone-drinking merrily with his friends.

His friends had cheered mockingly, “She actually came!”

He had glanced at me with disdain and said lazily, “I win the bet.”

Since that day, I had never stepped foot in the Debate Club again.

When the chandelier came crashing down, Pei Yi pushed me toward death to protect another woman.

As I lay there, blood streaming from my head, I was so happy I could have bashed my skull...
