Chapter 4

After leaving the office, I went to the convenience store.

My favorite yogurt was placed on the very top shelf of the tall freezer, and the little stool I usually used to step on was nowhere to be found.

I stood on tiptoe and stretched out my hand, but my fingertips could barely touch the cold surface-it was just too high.

Suddenly, a careless chuckle sounded from beside me.

A tall, upright boy was leaning against the freezer with one hand in his pocket, the corners of his lips slightly curved.

Under my gaze, he opened the freezer door, reached up, and took down the yogurt from the highest shelf.

He feigned a look at the yogurt in his hand, and then-

He raised his hand again and, right in front of me, put it back.

…

Childish.

“Brother Ci, those two freezers over there don’t have that soda. See if you’ve got any on your side?” Xie Yang came over, arms full of snacks.

By the time Lu Yici’s gaze swept over the freezer in front of me, I had already scooped up all five remaining cans of soda into my arms.

That brand of soda appeared on Lu Yici’s desk every afternoon.

But not today.

As his face darkened several shades, I passed by him with an air of nonchalance, heading straight for the nearest checkout counter.

When I paid, the lady at the register specially reminded me, “16.8 per can, you know.”

Without batting an eye, I swiped my card, picked up the bag, and strode away.

Xie Yang didn’t notice the change in mood beside him, and bumped his shoulder with interest, “Hey, Brother Ci, look at checkout number 4. That seems to be the new transfer student in our class. Looks like they went over their card limit-want to go check it out?”

Lu Yici shot him a cold glance, “If you want to go, go. What does it have to do with me?”

“What’s up with you? Swallowed a stick of dynamite?”

“Get lost.”

“Fine, I’ll go take a look.”
