Chapter 1
*Bang!*
The door slammed shut, just as I expected, the sound echoing through the silent night.
I heard my own voice, strained and raspy, as I asked, “How did she know the passcode to your door?”
Song Yuan paused for a moment before continuing to kiss me, his voice so soft it was almost a whisper. “We broke up, and I… forgot to change it.”
“Is that so?” I instinctively turned my face away slightly, dodging his touch.
He froze, then gently forced my face back toward him. His thumb brushed against my skin as he gave a nonchalant promise. “Really.”
Looking into his dark eyes, which held not a single trace of desire, I found myself momentarily speechless.
In a daze, my mind drifted back to Shen Bing, his ex-girlfriend, who had just left.
This afternoon, she had sent me a provocative text on purpose:
“He’s just something I didn’t want anymore. Believe it or not, if I so much as crook my finger, he’ll come crawling back.”
Song Yuan had been sitting right next to me when I saw the message. His expression remained indifferent, as if she weren’t even talking about him.
I was the only one left seething in silence.
It wasn’t that I was afraid Song Yuan would actually be stolen away. I wasn’t the type to get jealous or question our relationship over some baseless provocation from an ex.
I just felt… indignant on his behalf.
And my heart ached for him.
Before I could say anything else, Song Yuan had suddenly leaned in and kissed me without a word. His voice was husky and muffled, carrying a strange, coaxing quality.
“Wife… stay the night.”
Song Yuan had always been cold and detached. We rarely even kissed. This was the first time he had ever called me “wife” with such intimacy, and the first time he had ever initiated such a request. I didn’t refuse him.
I never expected Shen Bing to walk in on us.
At that moment, her face had turned deathly pale, making her look almost pitiful.
But Song Yuan hadn’t spared her a single glance the entire time.
Was he afraid to look…
Or was he unable to bear the sight?
A sudden crash of thunder jolted my thoughts back to reality.
A bright flash of lightning streaked past the window, illuminating Song Yuan’s pale, cold features.
“It’s raining,” I said absentmindedly.
Song Yuan froze. He quickly glanced toward the window, his indifferent eyes flickering with an unreadable emotion.
I stared at him blankly.
We had been together for so long that no matter how well he hid it, I could easily see through to the emotion buried in his gaze.
He was worried.
Worried about Shen Bing, who might be out there getting caught in the rain.
And he was regretting.
Regretting that he was with me tonight.

Heart Like Still Water
The first time I stayed over at my boyfriend’s place, his ex-girlfriend suddenly burst into the bedroom in the middle of the night.
I could clearly feel his body stiffen. The room fell...
