Chapter 5

“I made some porridge. You can have some.” Other than that, I really didn’t know what else to say.

As I approached, Green Tea suddenly jumped out of Chi Zhou’s arms.

He looked at me with a gloomy expression.

I couldn’t understand what I’d done to upset him. Thinking of Green Tea’s reaction just now, I realized-could it be that he suspects I did something to Green Tea?!

I found it a little funny, and actually laughed out loud.

“Chi Zhou, we’ve been together for seven years. In your eyes, am I just some pervert who abuses cats?”

He reached up and rubbed his brow, looking like he didn’t want to talk.

“That’s not what I meant.”

I said nothing.

He turned and went to the kitchen to serve the porridge.

I saw him take a sip, then frown and set the spoon down, but he didn’t say anything.

I stood in the corner, staring at him like a shadowy ghost, and, as if possessed, I spoke: “Chi Zhou, if you don’t like my cooking, you don’t have to eat it. No one’s forcing you.”

Just like you don’t love me, you don’t have to marry me.

If you want a divorce, you can just say so.

But…

Can you not make me feel like everything I do is wrong?

Can you not make me feel like I’m an outsider who could be kicked out at any moment?

Can you not make me… so sad?

Sadder than death.

The image of him wiping his ex’s tears was like a pain that arrived late.

Like a sharp knife, slicing through my heart, piercing my bones, torturing my soul.

If there really is a hell, it’s in the basement downstairs.

Chi Zhou looked up at me, his long eyes full of mockery.

He tossed the spoon into the sink, then dumped the porridge into the trash.

I saw his lips moving, but I couldn’t hear what he was saying.

The ringing in my ears started again.

I fell silent.

Before I was about to die, my love had already died.
