Chapter 4
Chapter 4
It was two weeks after we started dating. I had just finished a manuscript and ran to N University with two bottles of plum wine to find him, just as Shi Yan was finishing class and heading home.
“Dinner together?”
I agreed, but then followed Shi Yan to three different restaurants, all of which were packed with wait times of at least an hour.
Faced with such a crowd, even the usually composed Shi Yan seemed a bit helpless.
He lowered his head and thought for two seconds, then looked up at me.
“Actually, my cooking is pretty good. Do you want to go to my place?”
That night, I tasted Shi Yan’s exquisite culinary skills for the first time.
And with the four dishes and one soup he prepared, I naturally ended up getting drunk.
While Shi Yan was cleaning the kitchen, I sat on the sofa, my mind wandering aimlessly. Suddenly, I thought of a topic I had discussed with Shan Shan before.
She said, “You know, sometimes handsome guys are actually… not that great in bed.”
I looked at Shi Yan’s back in the kitchen-broad shoulders, narrow waist, long legs. When he lowered his head to dry a plate, the lines of his profile were impossibly handsome.
What a feast for the eyes.
My heart was suddenly filled with worry.
While taking a shower, I made a calculated move. I slipped and fell against the edge of the bathtub, making a loud thud.
Soon, the bathroom door was pushed open. Through the hazy mist, I saw Shi Yan’s blurred face enlarge in front of me.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, I just slipped.”
Then his kiss naturally fell upon my lips.
The mist gradually dispersed, only to grow thicker again amidst the rushing water.
Amidst my rapid breathing, he paused his movements, straightened up, took off his glasses, and began to unbuckle the watch on his wrist.
Seeing me staring straight at him, Shi Yan paused and looked down at me.
“Don’t be in such a rush.”
He placed the watch on the nearby vanity, then leaned back in, kissing me slowly and deliberately. “I was afraid it would scratch you later.”
…
To put it simply, rumors are not to be trusted.
Once passion was ignited, Shi Yan was like a completely different person compared to his usual self.
After that first time, I developed a taste for it and started running to his place more and more frequently.
Later, I simply moved in, bringing all my things with me.
Eventually, we started decorating our marital home. One night, it was late when we returned.
Shi Yan parked the car in a corner of the parking lot. I leaned down to unbuckle my seatbelt, and when I looked up, I bumped right into his lips.
I shivered, and he paused the kiss to reach back and turn off the car’s air conditioning-
…
“Get out of the car.” Shi Yan’s voice suddenly rang out, snapping me out of my memories.
Once I realized where I was, my whole body began to burn with heat.
“Shi Yan…”
I had barely uttered two words when Shi Yan’s phone suddenly rang.
I saw the name on the caller ID at a glance: Shao Tang.
The fluttering heart brought on by those memories was instantly severed, like a bucket of cold water being poured over my head. I stared at Shi Yan’s face, which looked perfectly normal.
But he didn’t even spare me a glance before reaching out to press the speakerphone button and answering the call.
Shao Tang’s soft voice came from the other end. “Shi Yan, have you resolved the matter with your ex-girlfriend? Can you come back to the university?”
I was so angry my lungs felt like they were about to burst, but Shi Yan just turned to look at me and asked her, “What is it?”
“Oh, it’s about that project the faculty mentioned last time. Their people arrived this afternoon, and there’s a meeting shortly. The Dean knows we have a good relationship, so he specifically asked me to contact you.”
“Understood.”
Shi Yan hung up the phone and tossed the keys to me. “Take your things yourself. I need to head back to the university.”
She said they had a good relationship, and he didn’t even deny it?!
I blinked, feeling both angry and aggrieved. I felt like I was about to burst into tears, but I forced myself to ask him:
“Then when will you be back? Should I wait for you so we can have dinner together?”
“Hard to say. Just take your things and go home.”
I clenched my palms tightly and whispered, “Then I’ll go with you first-”
“Meng Jingxin.”
Shi Yan abruptly interrupted me. “Have you forgotten that we’ve already broken up?”
