Chapter 4

A wave of heat flushed across my face.

I had been engaged to Fu Jingsen since I was nineteen.

It had been four years since then.

Chen Xu was the first man other than him to ever kiss me.

By the time we reached the underground garage, the heat lingering in my body still hadn’t faded.

Chen Xu was driving a Hummer.

As we sped out of the city and onto the mountain road, the speedometer climbed higher and higher until we finally reached the summit.

My heart was racing-it was uncomfortable, yet exhilarating.

It was an indescribable rush.

Chen Xu opened the car door and reached out to steady me as I got out. “Can you stand?”

My legs felt a bit weak, but I could still manage to walk, so I pushed his hand away and stepped forward.

Chen Xu didn’t insist.

The observation deck at the summit overlooked the entire city.

The lights of ten thousand homes lay at my feet, while above me stretched the vast, boundless starry sky.

The suffocating frustration that had been bottled up in my heart suddenly dissipated.

Chen Xu stood beside me and pulled out a pack of cigarettes.

Then, as if remembering something, he simply crushed the pack into a ball and tossed it into the trash can.

Watching him do that, I somehow found myself laughing.

“What are you laughing at?”

Chen Xu’s tone was a bit gruff.

He turned around, reaching out to tilt my chin up with his hand.

“Shen Ci, if you keep laughing like that, I won’t be able to stop myself from sleeping with you right here.”
