Chapter 8
Chapter 8
It was a snowy day during the Lunar New Year.
Mom knocked on my uncle’s door.
She had come to pick me up.
Beside her stood a man. Above his head, I saw a few words: Devoted Male Supporting Lead.
I wasn’t surprised anymore.
Every Female Lead has a second male lead who loves her.
The man’s name was Fu Zhengshen. His features were gentle, elegant, and handsome-unlike Dad, whose deep-set features were quite aggressive.
He leaned down to speak to me, his manner polite and respectful.
“Yaya, how about spending the New Year with me this year?”
I wanted to say yes.
But Mom refused.
“Zhengshen, there’s no need. Thank you for driving me here.”
Uncle walked out, his face full of guilt as he urged Mom to stay for the New Year.
Mom said coldly, “No. I bought my own house. Yaya will be living with me from now on.”
Uncle looked embarrassed. “I’m sorry, Wanwan.”
Mom turned and left.
She looked so cool walking away.
Uncle wanted to call out to her, but he couldn’t bring himself to open his mouth. He could only watch blankly as we departed.
I said to Mom, “Actually, I think Uncle is a little better than Dad. Once Uncle knew Yibao was his daughter, he kept trying to bring her back. Between Mom and Anxin, he chose Anxin. Uncle acted like a husband and a father, even though he was very mean to us.”
Mom paused.
She hugged me tightly.
Perhaps she finally realized it.
This was likely what a normal husband and father should do-believe in and protect his own wife and daughter.
Compared to Uncle, Dad was worse, more malicious.
Because he was always sacrificing us to fulfill his own sense of sentimentality.
Fu Zhengshen drove Mom and me back to our new place, but we ran into Dad and Anxin at the door.
Mom’s expression changed.
Dad’s expression darkened as well.
Anxin said softly, “Sister-in-law, you guys… didn’t Mr. Fu used to pursue you? Isn’t this a bit inappropriate?”
She certainly knew how to fan the flames.
Mom found it beneath her to argue, but I snapped back:
“When you’re with Dad, it’s ‘sibling affection,’ but when Uncle Fu is with Mom, it’s a problem? Your head is full of nothing but trash.”
Anxin’s mouth fell open, looking utterly shocked.
Soon, tears began to fall one by one. She looked so pitiful.
“Sister-in-law, I spent a long time mentally preparing myself today before deciding to let go of the past and get along with you. But for you to instigate a child to insult me… that’s just too much. I’m sorry, I can’t accept you.”
She ran off, stumbling as she went, looking like a damsel in distress.
Dad didn’t chase after her, though. Instead, he said coldly to Uncle Fu, “I have something to say to my wife. Please leave.”
Uncle Fu didn’t even look at him. Instead, he looked at Mom.
Seeing Mom nod, he said softly, “Call me anytime if you need anything.”
He prepared to leave.
I whispered to him, “Uncle Fu, can I go with you? I don’t like Dad. I want to be with you.”
Fu Zhengshen laughed, looking genuinely happy.
Dad’s face turned completely black. He was gritting his teeth in fury, yet he was helpless.
As Uncle Fu picked me up, I said solemnly to Dad, “Anxin was wrong just now. Mom didn’t teach me what to say. I personally loathe you and Anxin. You aren’t a good father, nor are you a good husband, but you sure are a good ‘big brother’ to Anxin.”
Fu Zhengshen gasped, likely discovering for the first time just how sharp-tongued I could be.
Dad looked as if he had been struck by lightning. He stared at me blankly, his eyes filled with a sorrowful pity.
Mom didn’t pity him at all. She opened the door and said indifferently, “If you have something to say, say it quickly. It’s the New Year; I don’t want to argue with you.”
Fu Zhengshen and I waited outside.
He helped me build a snowman, set off fireworks, and held my hand as we made footprints in the snow.
He would make a good father.
But I had listened to so many webnovels, and the second male lead rarely ends up on top.
Besides, I didn’t want Mom to just drift from one man to another in the future. Letting men control one’s fate is a tragedy.
She should be like a true Female Lead in a book-having her own thoughts, her own abilities, and living her life with interest.
I asked Fu Zhengshen, “What do you like about my mom?”
Fu Zhengshen smiled. “Your mom is wonderful. She’s the best woman I’ve ever met. If your mom ever gets a divorce, would it be okay if I pursued her?”
I was about to answer.
His phone rang.
He glanced at it, and his face visibly darkened.
I grew wary.
Many second male leads have a mess of unwanted romantic entanglements. I didn’t know if Fu Zhengshen was an exception.
Fu Zhengshen hung up the phone and became much quieter.
I remained silent too, not wanting to speak.
It seemed Fu Zhengshen was no exception.
Before long, Dad came downstairs in a rage.
He glanced at me and said coldly, “Yu Pinlan, come home with me.”
Mom followed him down immediately, shielding me closely. “Yaya is staying with me. Please leave!”
The atmosphere between them was like drawn swords.
Dad’s face was frosty. “I was lenient before for your sake. Now, you’ll have to face the consequences.”
Mom snapped back, “Yu Zhenting, don’t play your dirty tricks. Don’t make me look down on you.”
With a cold face, Dad got into his car. He drove off fast and hard, leaving a cloud of dust behind.
I finally saw what the words “Desperado Outlaw” looked like over someone’s head.
I asked Mom, “What did you ever like about Dad?”
Mom couldn’t answer.
After a long time, she said, “It’s all in the past.”

Go, Yaya!
After Mom died, I began using the same manipulative tactics that the mistress once used to frame her, turning them against my father.
I watched as he was torn apart by public outcry. I...
