Chapter 10
Chapter 10
It seemed my dreamscape was expanding bit by bit, now even including a child for Su Yu and me.
I picked him up carefully. This soft little thing felt surprisingly substantial and grounding in my arms as he leaned against my shoulder, sucking on his thumb.
Su Yu was clearly overwhelmed by the cuteness as well; his eyes hadn’t left the baby for a single second.
“Is he hungry?”
He noticed the issue before I did. I agreed that it looked that way, so he went off to prepare some formula.
When he returned with the bottle, he even knew to squeeze a few drops onto the back of his hand to test the temperature.
The baby was indeed hungry. He grabbed the bottle and began gulping it down, making little contented grunts as he drank.
I held him close, unable to bring myself to put him down.
Standing beside me, Su Yu was perhaps getting a bit envious. He couldn’t help but say, “Let me hold him too.”
He deserved some credit for such an adorable baby, so even though I was reluctant, I handed him over.
Su Yu’s posture while holding the infant was incredibly clumsy. He was afraid of hurting the baby if he held him too tight, but afraid of dropping him if he held him too loose. It was quite a comical sight.
I laughed. “Isn’t this your baby? Why are you acting like it’s the first time you’ve seen him?”
Su Yu licked his lips awkwardly. With my help, he finally found the right position.
The baby was so good. After finishing his milk, he didn’t cry or fuss; he just lay on the mat, grabbing at his own little feet.
Around his neck, he wore a soft fabric longevity lock. His name was embroidered on it in gold thread-Su Qingyu.
I flipped the longevity lock over and saw a line of poetry on the back.
I read it aloud slowly: “The Jade Boy from Taoist Trinity came so late, while butterflies o’er twelve jade towers dance in flight.”
“That poem must be where his name comes from,” Su Yu said.
I nodded. “It’s beautiful.”
That night, the two of us didn’t do anything else; we just spent the whole time watching over Xiao Qingyu.
Even after he fell asleep, we couldn’t bear to put him back in the nursery. We spent the entire night talking about this little person.
So when the alarm clock woke me up again at seven in the morning, an overwhelming wave of exhaustion washed over me the moment I opened my eyes.
