Chapter 4

Something happened to Wu Liang.

Yesterday, he was still showing off his college-student mistress, calling her “so well-behaved it breaks your heart.” Today, she actually showed up at his door to force him into a divorce.

The girl brought a pregnancy test report, claiming she’d secretly checked and found out it was a boy, and she wanted to give Wu Liang a son.

She then proceeded to play private videos of her and Wu Liang for his wife to see right then and there.

Wu Liang, with that foul mouth of his, hadn’t forgotten to trash-talk his wife even while in his mistress’s bed.

Now that it was being aired out in a public execution, he looked like he wanted to bash his head against a wall and die.

Wu Liang’s wife was a high-powered career woman. Usually easygoing and blunt, she never expected her husband to have someone on the side.

Suddenly provoked by the disgusting videos, her anger flared to a breaking point, and she kicked the girl straight down the stairs.

The mistress miscarried on the spot and threatened to call the police.

Wu Liang wanted to settle privately with money. The mistress stopped acting sweet and opened her mouth wide, demanding twenty million yuan.

He wanted Xie Run to find a reliable lawyer to negotiate terms with the mistress and handle the private settlement process.

Wu Liang gave a bitter smile.

“Old Chen, your big brother really crashed and burned this time.”

“My wife wants a divorce, and my daughter won’t even acknowledge me.”

“My father-in-law has already announced publicly that he’s cutting ties with me. Given the old man’s status, this is going to cost me dearly.”

I offered him a few words of comfort and then called Xie Run to tell her about the situation.

A few days later, Wu Liang made a special trip to the company to thank me, saying the person Xie Run introduced was very reliable and the matter had been resolved smoothly.

He sighed.

“Old Chen, I really envy you.”

“Sister-in-law is so virtuous. Even though she knows you have someone else outside, she hasn’t made a scene.”

I smiled. “She’s different from your wife. She doesn’t have a family to back her up, so she doesn’t have the confidence to act out.”

Xie Run came from a single-parent family; my mother-in-law was just an ordinary retired teacher.

When we got married, we were a decent match. But now, my career is thriving, while she is just a low-level lawyer.

If we divorced-to put it bluntly-I’d be in the position of the man who “gets promoted, gets rich, and loses his wife.” It would be all profit and no loss for me.

Xie Run was a different story.

I had long since transferred my assets; on the surface, I didn’t have much personal property.

If we divorced, Xie Run wouldn’t get much money at all.

She was already thirty-five. Usually, her work as a lawyer was just a way to kill time; she didn’t actually have any remarkable skills.

Besides, I didn’t treat her poorly. I gave her all the dignity and status she deserved.

If she was a smart woman, she would know how to choose.

Marrying up is like swallowing needles; since she climbed the social ladder to be with me, she has to endure a little grievance.

Wu Liang didn’t seem to agree with my words.

“Sister-in-law doesn’t seem like the type to just idle her time away. The lawyer she recommended spoke of her with great respect.”

“The reason she isn’t making a scene might just be because she values your relationship. As your brother, let me give you a piece of advice: while things are still peaceful at home, break it off with He Xiaolu as soon as possible.”

I didn’t take it to heart, only casually agreeing, “You have a point. I’ll consider it.”

I turned to my wife in surprise. “Are you pregnant with our second...
