chapter 15
Zhou Mu asked me out on Valentine’s Day.
I agreed-and set the location as that same restaurant from that day.
When Zhou Mu arrived, his expression froze for a split second, but he quickly smoothed it over.
He set a gift box down.
“I saw this last time. It suits you.”
“Thank you.”
I lifted the lid. Inside lay a very expensive pink diamond necklace.
“Sorry, I’ve been too busy lately. I haven’t had time to prepare a gift for you.”
“It’s fine.”
Zhou Mu smiled, trying noticeably to please me. “You spending today with me is the best gift…”
His words were drowned in the sudden splash of red wine.
The white shirt was stained, red liquid dripping from his hair onto the table. I opened the camera app and aimed it at the person across from me.
“Zhou Mu!”
The wineglass in Chen Wei’s hand smashed to the floor, shattering into pieces.
Her voice was shrill and grief-stricken:
“You’re spending Valentine’s Day with her!”
“Why won’t you reply to my messages!”
“Have you fallen out of love with me? Have you, have you-”
“Really fallen in love with her!-”
Zhou Mu said nothing. He stood, took the towel the waiter handed him, and wiped the wine from his face.
Curious eyes from all directions closed in on us.
I sat there, perfectly composed, watching the farce unfold.
“Sorry.”
Ignoring her, Zhou Mu turned to me. “Xiao Jin, there’s been a bit of an accident.”
The waiter beside us was already trying to restrain Chen Wei.
“Don’t be mad. I’ll make it up to-”
“Song Jin!”
Chen Wei suddenly swung her gaze to me. “You did this on purpose!”
“You did it on purpose, didn’t you!”
“You texted me on purpose, made me angry on purpose, made me come looking for you on purpose, just so I’d make a fool of myself!”
The more she spoke, the angrier she became. She grabbed a wine bottle from the table and hurled it straight at me.
In a split second-
Someone stepped in front of me.
The heavy thud of glass hitting flesh made my heart jolt.
I was in Zhou Mu’s arms.
I could hear his heartbeat, each beat louder than the last.
But my face remained expressionless.
Chen Wei was being held back, her arm still frozen in the throwing motion.
Zhou Mu turned around and, with stunning speed and force, slapped her across the face.
“I haven’t fallen out of love.”
“Chen Wei.”
“She’s my wife.”
The onlookers gasped. I heard people whispering, calling Chen Wei crazy.
A mistress daring to march up in front of the legal wife.
Chen Wei just stared at Zhou Mu, face deathly pale, crying nonstop.
The farce finally ended after the waiters escorted Chen Wei out.
I no longer felt like eating, and Zhou Mu looked a complete mess.
We simply left.
