chapter 14
I didn’t bring up divorce with Zhou Mu.
He treated me better and better, and clung to me more tightly than ever.
He made breakfast for me before work. After work, he’d come pick me up, buy me flowers, buy my favorite foods, and buy all kinds of high-end, hard-to-get gifts that just happened to be exactly my taste.
My coworkers at the office would tease, “Sister Jin, your husband loves you so much. Do you have some kind of secret?”
I only smiled.
Whenever Chen Wei called occasionally, he would quietly hang up on her.
Chen Wei suddenly showed up one day.
At the same café as last time.
All the composure she’d had before was gone, along with the arrogant, provocative swagger she’d used to challenge me.
“What did you do?”
Chen Wei stared fixedly at me, fingers clenched so tightly around her cup that her knuckles turned white.
I took a light sip of coffee and smiled at her. “I didn’t do anything.”
I had only told him how much I used to love him.
And then turned around and walked away.
Why should I divorce him just to make way for them?
One of them had wanted but never gotten him. The other couldn’t win me back.
Isn’t this better?
“Song Jin!”
“He doesn’t love you!”
“He loves me! Me!”
Chen Wei lost control, shouting at me in anger.
But saying it again and again didn’t make her sound any more sure of herself.
“Is that so.”
I set down my coffee and stood up.
“Then go convince Zhou Mu to divorce me.”
“Can you do that?”
“Chen Wei.”
