Chapter 3
Chapter 3
I admit that the breakup had affected my performance.
During the meeting, it took Cheng Yan calling my name twice before I finally snapped back to reality.
He looked at me with concern. “Forget it, I’ll handle the negotiations with the partners. Why have you been so out of it lately?”
I rubbed the bridge of my nose. “It’s nothing.”
He nodded and hurried out of the conference room, full of his usual energy.
I watched his retreating figure, trying to find even a shred of comfort in the situation.
At the very least, I had to believe I’d made the right choice.
Cheng Yan and I were childhood friends. We both came from humble beginnings and had fought tooth and nail in this big city for years.
We had finally laid down roots and built a business of our own.
I could throw everything away for the sake of love, but I couldn’t drag Cheng Yan down with me.
No matter how busy work got, there would always be moments of downtime eventually.
I locked myself in my car, unwilling to go home.
Suddenly, a message from a mutual friend popped up on my phone.
He asked, “Is Yuen sick? I’m abroad right now and can’t make it back. How is he doing?”
I froze. Was he sick?
“I don’t know,” I replied.
The other person was shocked. “You don’t know? Aren’t you staying by his side while he’s ill?”
I turned off my phone and leaned my head back against the seat, staring blankly at the ceiling.
After a long silence, I finally started the car. I didn’t want to get entangled with him again.
I just… I really, really wanted to see him one last time.

The harshest words I had ever heard came from his mother.
“Two men together-how are you supposed to get married and...
