Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Tong Yuen was babbling about something on the phone.
“Gege, why aren’t you home yet?”
“What do you want for dinner? I’ll have the auntie make it.”
“Soon. Anything is fine.”
He sounded excited-so excited that he didn’t notice anything was wrong with me.
“Okay. Well, the thing is… I have something to give you.”
“What is it?”
I raised my hand and glanced at my watch, my ring, my tie; it seemed like every single item bore a trace of Tong Yuen.
“It’s, it’s just…” His tone was a bit shy. “Anyway, you’ll know when you get back and see it.”
For the first time, I felt a sense of resistance toward going home.
I knew what was about to happen.
I felt a little reluctant to let go.
When I finally pushed open the door, Tong Yuen threw himself into my arms and shoved something fuzzy into my hands.
He held me tightly, refusing to let me look at it.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever made one. You have to say you like it, do you hear me?”
I rubbed his equally fuzzy head, and suddenly, my eyes began to sting.
It wasn’t just a little reluctance. I was very, very, very reluctant to let go.
He finally released his grip, and I saw the Little White Dog in my hand clearly.
His beautiful eyes fixed on me as he asked nervously, “Do you like it?”
“I saw other people making them for their boyfriends.”
My gaze flickered over the band-aids on his fingertips, and I took a deep breath.
“Tong Yuen, let’s break up.”
“What?”
“We’re breaking up.”
A blank, dazed expression appeared on his face.
“Why?”
“Is it because I didn’t make it well? You don’t like it?”
“Then I won’t make them anymore.”
“You said we couldn’t just bring up breaking up for no reason.”
He didn’t dare look me in the eye, instead frantically reaching out to grab my sleeve. “Are you hungry? Dinner is ready. Let’s… let’s go eat.”
I brushed his hand away and threw the Little White Dog into the trash can.
“Yes. I don’t like your gift, and I don’t like you anymore.”
His mouth hung open as he stared at me blankly. He blinked, and suddenly, tears began to fall.
I turned my face away, not daring to look at his expression again.
But his words were like a sharp blade piercing my heart.
My Yuen called out to me, sounding so sorrowful and helpless.
“Gege.”
“I beg you, don’t do this to me.”

Ex-Boyfriend’s Little White Dog
It was the fourth year of my relationship with Tong Yuen.
The harshest words I had ever heard came from his mother.
