Chapter 6
Chapter 6
I am rarely someone who gets angry; excessively intense emotions tend to cloud my judgment.
But at this moment, I couldn’t help but feel a flicker of rage.
“I said you’re free from now on. Don’t you understand?”
I liked to think that my relationship with Shen Sui had been decent enough.
No matter how much I loved him, I had never stooped to being clingy or desperate.
Before we started dating, the period when I had the most contact with him was during university. Even then, I was extremely restrained and careful when orchestrating “chance” encounters, making sure never to cause him the slightest bit of displeasure.
To me, this relationship was defined by a simple process: I wanted it, I worked for it, and I got it.
No matter how things ended, it shouldn’t have reached the point of mutual resentment.
Shen Sui didn’t say a word, his gaze lingering on my face for a long time.
Eventually, he let out a sudden, short laugh.
“Jiang Zhi, you aren’t being very calm today.
“We’ll talk again once you’ve cooled down.”
He snatched his coat from where it was draped over the back of the chair.
I stood there in silence. As Shen Sui’s footsteps faded into the distance, the surrounding quiet became unnerving.
The night seemed to flow soundlessly, a deathly stillness pinning me in place.
Suddenly, a wave of nausea washed over me.
It was this tactic again.
Whenever I reached my breaking point and my emotions were about to boil over, Shen Sui would airily drop a comment about me needing to “calm down.”
By doing so, he could remain completely detached.
I used to be obsessed with this side of Shen Sui-the way he handled everything with ease, always maintaining the air of a refined, noble gentleman who could do no wrong.
No matter who else was at the card table, he only ever played by his own rules.
At the end of the day, after all these years, I was nothing to him.
It was even possible that I never had the right to sit at the same table as him in the first place.

Don’t Mess With The Ex-Fiancée
It was the eighth year of my unrequited love for Shen Sui, and he still refused to acknowledge me as his fiancée.
He had me pulled from the red carpet just to please his Little Canary.
