Chapter 14
Chapter 14
Sister Zhou eventually secured that script for me. Unfortunately, while the production team had originally slated me for the female lead, they changed their tune the very next day and bumped me down to the second female lead.
Sister Zhou was furious, but after I talked her down, I accepted the role anyway.
As long as I had a role to play, I still had a chance to prove myself. Doing nothing would only make things worse, and sitting around waiting for death wasn’t part of my code of conduct-even if the female lead was Lu Li.
Still, it struck me as odd. I couldn’t imagine why Lu Li would even look twice at a low-budget web drama like this. If I weren’t forced by circumstance, I wouldn’t have touched a project that invited such criticism. An actor should avoid leaving stains on their career whenever possible.
General audiences aren’t like die-hard fans. Once they get the impression that I don’t cherish my reputation or that my acting is too poor to carry a lead role, they won’t give me a second chance.
On my first day on set, I saw Shen Sui.
The director was going over a scene with Lu Li, and Shen Sui remained inseparable from her side.
Sister Zhou caught sight of the scene and frowned slightly.
“Looking at that posture,” she whispered, “the rumors are likely eighty percent true.”
I instinctively followed her gaze and locked eyes with Shen Sui, who had suddenly looked up.
I gave a silent, faint smile. “Yeah, they look like quite the match.”
The sun felt a bit too hot, and I felt a searing sensation in my chest to match.
I wondered if the version of me from eight years ago would regret everything if she could see my dismal ending today.
I thought about it carefully, and the answer was no. The point of doing anything is because I want to; I only regret the things I don’t do.
As I calmly looked away, the expression on Shen Sui’s face gradually collapsed into a cold, deep glare.
Sister Zhou leaned in and asked, “Why do I get the feeling that Shen Sui hates you even more than he likes Lu Li?”
My hand paused as I flipped through the script.
“Really?”
Sister Zhou’s eyes were suspicious as she scanned my face back and forth.
“What kind of intersection could you possibly have with him?”
I didn’t blame her for thinking that. In the eyes of outsiders, Shen Sui and I were worlds apart.
“That’s a shame then. I’m such a great person, yet he still hates me. He has terrible taste.”
Sister Zhou was amused by my remark. She flicked her finger against my forehead and laughed.
“Oh, you.”

Don’t Mess With The Ex-Fiancée
It was the eighth year of my unrequited love for Shen Sui, and he still refused to acknowledge me as his fiancée.
He had me pulled from the red carpet just to please his Little Canary.
