Chapter 1
Chapter 1
I was startled by the sudden appearance of bullet comments. My hand, which had been reaching for the door, jerked back instinctively.
What is this? What murderer? What horror novel protagonist?
Are they talking about me?
I’ve never been one to believe in the supernatural, but these words were floating right in front of my eyes, as real as could be.
My heart hammered against my ribs. I didn’t have time to process anything else; I just focused on the most critical information in the comments.
Right now, there was a murderer standing outside my door, ready to kill me at any moment.
I pressed myself against the door, alert, holding my breath as I peered through the peephole.
But the hallway outside was empty. Not a soul in sight.
I kept my eyes glued to the hallway through the peephole.
I soon noticed something wrong.
The lights in our building’s hallways are motion-activated; as long as someone is there, the lights stay on.
From my front door, I could see the entire hallway clearly.
Right now, the hallway was clearly empty, yet the sensor light remained stubbornly lit.
This meant someone was hiding in the hallway, specifically in my blind spot.
An idea struck me. I immediately turned off the lights inside my apartment and looked down at the gap at the bottom of the door.
With the indoor lights off, the light from the hallway should have been streaming through the crack.
But it wasn’t! The center of the gap was completely blocked by a dark shadow, with only a few faint slivers of light peeking through the sides.
Someone really was hiding out there! He was currently crouched down right in front of my door.
That was the only spot that was a blind spot for the peephole!
Just then, my phone lit up. It was another message from the delivery driver: [Why haven’t you picked up your food yet? Is something wrong? I can help you.]
Staring at that shifting dark shadow through the crack, I thought I could hear the man’s breathing outside.
At this moment, I became even more convinced that those bullet comments were real.
I was certain that someone with ill intentions was hiding at my door.
I decisively backed away from the entrance, rushed back into the room, and locked every window and door.
Then, I pulled out my phone, prepared to call the police.
At the same time, another large wave of bullet comments drifted across my vision.
[Oh? The female lead is starting to use her brain? She actually didn’t open the door?]
[She even knew to turn off the lights to check for the killer’s shadow. So smart!]
[But as the first victim to be killed, if the female lead doesn’t open the door now, the rest of the plot can’t move forward.]
[Yeah, only after the female lead is murdered will the male lead be heartbroken enough to start the whole horror-mystery investigation plot.]
Seeing these floating words, my heart gave a violent shudder. I suddenly had a terrible premonition.
Sure enough, before I could even dial the emergency number on my phone, a cold sneer came from the front door.
It was a strange man’s voice.
Then came the sound of faint friction, like someone shifting their body slightly.
I clenched my fists in terror. Before I could react, a massive electric chainsaw suddenly tore through the door.
The chainsaw sliced through the wood with ease, its teeth spinning frantically, emitting a bone-chilling roar.
The man’s silhouette became clearer. He wore a black mask and a hat, making it impossible to see his face.
But I could feel him staring at me intently. I backed away in horror, only to find I had nowhere left to run.
He didn’t say a word. He just looked straight at me, then with a sudden surge of force, he sawed the door completely open.
I raised my hands in desperation, attempting one last stand. “Do I have some grievance with you? At least let me know why I’m dying.”
But the man remained silent. He slowly raised the chainsaw, its teeth glinting coldly under the light.
He swung it with all his might-
I felt a burst of agonizing pain, and my vision was instantly stained crimson.
My body was sawn in two. Pain flooded over me like a tidal wave.
Before I completely lost consciousness, I saw another string of bullet comments drifting by.
[I told you, even if the female lead doesn’t open the door, she still has to die. It’s the setting of the plot; she’s the first victim, she can’t escape.]
[Sigh, how pitiful. She was already so smart, but she still couldn’t escape death.]
[Alright, stop crying in the comments above. The frustrating part is over. Now we can watch the male lead solve the case and get revenge in a satisfying story!]

Death Countdown: Saved by the Chat
At 11:30 PM, I was home alone and ordered some takeout.
When the map showed the delivery driver was zero meters away, my phone rang.
I picked up, but there was nothing but silence on...
