chapter 6
The skin beneath my fingers was warm and smooth as jade; I could tell right away.
The pulse was strong and steady, nothing much to worry about, just a bit of excess heat.
Some cooling remedies would do.
I withdrew my hand, and Pei Du called out to me.
“Miss Wen…”
I replied earnestly, “When there’s no one else around, you may call me Xueyi.”
Pei Du lowered his head and coughed lightly, a faint blush rising on his handsome face.
“Xueyi.”
He called me somewhat hesitantly, then asked, uncertain, “Are you truly sure about this?”
Was there even a need to think about it?
I nodded, a little puzzled.
Sigh.
So easily embarrassed-what will he do after we’re married?
But speaking of marriage-
“Then, when shall we marry? Have you decided?”
I asked him.
Pei Du pondered for a while. “Isn’t it a bit soon? There are still many matters unresolved.”

Besides, I’m just a country orphan-hardly a match for him.
Before he could reply, I took out the Token.
“If you don’t wish to, we can annul the engagement right now.”
“This, returned to its rightful owner.”
Pei Du’s gaze lingered on the Token in my hand, dark eyes rippling with emotion.
“Annul the engagement?”
“Of course not.”
Pei Du’s eyes deepened, his expression growing gentler.
“It’s just that there are many things to prepare.”
He gently brushed my hair behind my ear.
“For our wedding, everything must be perfect.”
