chapter 2
After several days of tossing on the boat, we finally docked at the shore.
With my bundle on my back, I disembarked and immediately spotted a flag bearing the character for Pei.
Fortunately, the Pei Family had sent someone to receive me.
I walked toward him.
“Let’s go.”
The man holding the flag seemed not to react at first, staring at me in a daze.
I asked in confusion, “Aren’t you from the Pei Family? The Jiangdu Pei Clan.”
Only then did he seem to come to his senses, asking tentatively, “Are you Miss Wen?”
I nodded.
He led the way to a carriage, kindly reminding me, “Miss Wen, today the Second Master has come to receive you in person. He has something he wishes to say to you.”
Pei Er came to receive me himself?
I was taken aback, feeling a bit uneasy.
I wasn’t prepared to meet my Fiancé directly yet.
Especially since he’s dissatisfied with me…
While I was lost in thought, a slender hand lifted the carriage curtain.
I looked up, meeting a pair of cold and distant eyes.
Inside the carriage, the man wore a moon-white brocade robe, perfectly tailored. His figure was slender and upright, dignified and elegant, like an orchid or jade tree-there was an indescribable nobility and grace.
I was momentarily dazed, nearly captivated by his striking appearance.
But recalling the rumors I’d heard along the way, I quickly sobered.
No matter how fine the looks, how noble the bearing, if he looks down on me, what good is it?
Once seated in the carriage, I said, “Young Master Pei Er, if you have something to say, please say it directly.”
“There’s no rush.”
His phoenix eyes fixed on me, thin lips parting slightly, his voice cool and low.
“Miss Wen, you must be weary from your journey. Let’s return to the residence first so you can rest.”

I had heard that he was proud and aloof, already enamored with someone else, and looked down upon me,...
