After waking up in the hospital, my sister changed completely.
She used to lower her head to hide the birthmark on her face whenever she saw anyone. When walking through a crowd, her doe eyes would be filled with fear. Only when she looked at me would they sparkle with joy.
But everything had changed.
Now, she always wore a cold smirk. No matter what our parents asked for, she would grant their every wish. Even though she looked exactly the same as before, her eyes now shimmered with a seductive light; I could hardly find anything familiar in them.
What’s more, she ignored me entirely.
We used to huddle together in the same bed, but now I was left all alone. She would laugh and chat with my younger brother, yet she pretended not to hear me whenever I called her name.
I watched the relatives crowding around her, then picked up a slice of bread, preparing to leave.
“Shujing.”
I turned my head and saw my sister sitting on the sofa.
“Get there safely.”
I stared at her. After all this time, those were the only words she had spoken to me. I nodded, my heart racing with excitement.
