After hearing what I said, Captain Li narrowed his eyes.
“Why did you poison them?”
I tidied my hair and smiled. “I didn’t get along with them. It’s that simple.”
The pressure from the Criminal Investigation Captain suddenly spread, every word weighing down on me so much I could barely breathe:
“Ji Xia, you may be young, but you’re already 18. You are fully capable of bearing criminal responsibility. I hope you will be accountable for every word you say.”
“You didn’t get along with them? If that’s the case, why did you take the initiative to fetch water for them from the lounge next door? And why did they accept it so readily?”
“You’re lying! Who are you covering for?”
The white light above was blinding. I couldn’t tell if it was the lingering effect of the poison.
Suddenly, I remembered that I had once shouted at the three of them:
“Who are you covering for?”
