Chapter 17
But as an admissions teacher, how did she treat the students who trusted her?
I know I have my own problems.
I trust others too easily.
I wanted to ease the burden on my family.
I thought that with my excellent college entrance exam results, I could really get something for nothing.
Every pie that falls from the sky has its price tag. I finally understand that now.
“Ji Xia, you understood what I said on the night of the Orientation Gala, right? You have to meet as agreed once a month.”

“For families like yours, this is actually a benefit. When you enter society, you’ll understand-being able to rely on yourself to take shortcuts is a good thing. After all, many people want to take shortcuts but don’t even have the channel.”
I wanted nothing more than to rush up and tear her face apart.
But I couldn’t.
She threatened me. If I didn’t obey, she would tell my parents.
My parents have suffered enough…
The three of us, Deng Xingxing and I, changed clothes together, put on our dance costumes, did our makeup, and sat quietly on the floor of the dance studio.
The mirrors around us reflected our pale faces, like four walking corpses.
Or like lambs waiting to be slaughtered, awaiting the arrival of the butcher.
I broke down, hugging my knees, digging my nails into my palm until beads of blood seeped out.
“Have you ever thought about calling the police?” I asked them.
They froze for a moment, then gave a bitter smile: “We did. It was useless.”
I sneered coldly: “Who exactly are you trying to protect?”
I blurted out, questioning whether they were trying to cover for those scumbags.
They told me:
“The Public Security Bureaus near Renwen University all know the School Leadership.”
“As soon as you go, the school will be notified immediately.”
“Besides, the procedures in the public security system are complicated. Many victims break down themselves while waiting for evidence to be collected.”
“Those people who wear a veneer of respectability have far more social influence than we can imagine.”
