Chapter 13

In the interrogation room, when the story reached this point, I suddenly stopped speaking.

Zhong Minglang’s pen paused, a look of confusion on his face, but his words cut straight to the point:

“And then? You’re talking about last September’s Orientation Gala. What does that have to do with you poisoning those three girls?”

“Because they excluded you during that month, you bore a grudge and poisoned them.”

“Confess honestly! Which app or physical store did you buy the poison from?”

I curled my lips: “I took the poison myself, damaged my brain nerves, and forgot all about it. You police can check for yourselves. After all, everything needs evidence, doesn’t it?”

Zhong Minglang was still young. After hearing my provocative words, his initial sympathy had turned into anger toward me.

He seemed unable to imagine that, just because of some quarrels, I could be so ruthless as to kill three girls in the prime of their youth.

And those three girls had lived with me day and night.

The door of the interrogation room was knocked. A Policewoman entered, handed a document to Captain Li, and whispered something in his ear.

Captain Li leaned back, a look of confidence on his face: “Ji Xia, leniency to those who confess. I’ll give you one last chance. Do you want to confess yourself, or wait for us to say it?”

I smiled: “Officer, if you have the evidence, just arrest me.”

A moment of confrontation felt like crossing mountains and rivers.

Captain Li spoke first: “The colleagues from the Criminal Investigation Technology Department have decrypted the phones of the three deceased. All chat records and shopping records were wiped clean. However, in Deng Xingxing’s sanitary pad packaging, we found a shopping receipt.”

As he spoke, Captain Li stared at my face and asked slowly, “The payment record on the receipt shows it was paid online with Deng Xingxing’s bank card. Do you know what Deng Xingxing bought?”

Unconsciously, I clenched my palm and stiffened my neck: “I don’t know.”

“We checked the agricultural supplies online store that issued the receipt. At 3 a.m. on April 25th, Deng Xingxing bought a bottle of pesticide-the very poison among the four of you!”
