Chapter 10
I froze, silently pondering for a long time. I walked along the campus path, secretly asking classmates about the Ballet Club.
The responses I got were not encouraging.
However, there was nothing conclusive.
It was all just rumors and hearsay.
Late at night, when everything was quiet, I underwent a fierce internal struggle, then picked up my phone and sent a message:
“Teacher Zhang, I don’t want to join the Ballet Club anymore. Is that okay?”
She replied quickly: “No, you can’t. I’ve already signed you up, your name has been submitted. If you back out now, it’ll be very difficult for me!”
“The Ballet Club’s selection is strict. Appearance, temperament, and character are all assessed. Many students can’t even pass the appearance stage, let alone being dance majors. Even if you pass the first two, there’s still a one-month observation period.”
“As a student, honesty and integrity are the first principles. If you go back on your word now, I won’t be able to help you get any school benefits in the future.”
Her words left me stunned.
I was terrified of upsetting the School Leadership and affecting my studies and life at school.
Since then, I never mentioned wanting to quit the club again.
Freshmen are required to undergo a month of military training, but I was given an exception and didn’t have to participate.
While the other students stood in military formation under the scorching sun, I went to the club and began rehearsing dances with the three senior members.
Teacher Zhang made a special point to explain: “The Ballet Club has its own responsibilities. On the day the military training ends, there will be an Orientation Gala to welcome new students, and you are responsible for performing.”
“If you can successfully pass the School Leadership’s evaluation, you can officially join the club. Don’t let me down.”
I had just joined the club and was already expected to participate in such an important event, which made me very nervous.
Fortunately, my foundation was solid. I shamelessly asked the three senior members for help. Deng Xingxing and Cheng Youran didn’t pay much attention to me, but Senior Qin Xue was very gentle. She would answer my questions and help me with rehearsals.
However, there was always an unshakable sadness in her eyes.
“Ji Xia, have you thought this through? If you really participate in the Orientation Gala, you won’t be able to back out later.”
I didn’t notice anything strange in Qin Xue’s tone and nodded solemnly.
