chapter 7
That night, Jiang Tingrou and Gu Xiao had an unprecedented argument.
The reason was very simple: after Jiang Tingrou paid the deposit for her wedding dress, she bought many of Qi Feng’s ready-to-wear designs.
She had lost so much weight that her wardrobe naturally needed an update, and after buying new clothes, she of course needed new bags and jewelry to match.
Gu Xiao had just finished a day of meetings, arguing with shareholders over the ugly quarterly financial report. As soon as he left the meeting, he was greeted with the news that all his black cards had been maxed out.
He was instantly furious.
Jiang Tingrou couldn’t understand why Gu Xiao was angry at all.
She was born into wealth, relying on her parents as a child and her husband as an adult, never having earned a penny herself.
So now, she just felt wronged.
“Are you saying you want me to have nothing to wear?” Jiang Tingrou screamed, her eyes red. “We’ve been together for so many years, and you won’t even spend money on our wedding. Gu Xiao, don’t make me feel like I loved the wrong person!”
She had always been proud and willful, but she was beautiful.
Now, with her hair disheveled and screaming, she looked like a madwoman.
There was no helping it-the carb blockers in her diet had made her lose weight rapidly, but also caused her to develop bipolar disorder.
Gu Xiao stared in shock at the woman who was cursing him out.
I looked into his eyes and saw the love that had been steadfast for years beginning to loosen and shatter.
And this was only the beginning.
…
That night, after finally making up, Jiang Tingrou and Gu Xiao showered and prepared to be intimate.
Previously, because Gu Xiao’s company was about to launch a new product, he often worked late at the office, and the two hadn’t shared a bed for several weeks.
This night should have been tender and loving, but when Gu Xiao touched Jiang Tingrou, he suddenly realized something was wrong.
Jiang Tingrou’s skin was loose all over her body; even in the dim light, he could see large areas of stretch marks.
She had lost weight too quickly, without any exercise.
Her skin couldn’t keep up with the change, and now her body was slack-any pinch could grab a handful of loose flesh.
Gu Xiao sat up abruptly.
He said, “I just remembered I have to work overtime.”
I stood in the courtyard, watching Gu Xiao rush out the door, while upstairs in the bedroom came the sounds of Jiang Tingrou smashing things and Wu Man hurrying to comfort her.
I unlocked my phone and spoke softly to the person on the other end, “Did you hear that?”
A gentle laugh came through the phone: “I heard it. Hearing her cry makes me feel much better.”
On my contact list, the name displayed was-Qi Feng.
The little crybaby who used to cling to her sister, wiping her snot and tears all over her, had grown up and truly become a fashion designer.
If my sister were still alive, knowing that the little crybaby she worried about most had become the first among us to realize her dream, she would probably be very happy.
