In the evening, Gu Xiao arrived.
When his work isn’t too busy, he comes to have dinner with Jiang Tingrou.
I limped over, carrying the nutritious meal. Gu Xiao looked up and glanced at my bandaged leg.
Jiang Tingrou smiled faintly, “Qingyu’s leg is injured, so she can’t go running with you.”
Gu Xiao’s face showed no expression.
After a moment, he sighed softly, “Then how about you run with me?”
As expected, he was dissatisfied with Jiang Tingrou’s aggressive jealousy, but in the end, he didn’t lose his temper.
I am nothing but an insignificant Servant, not someone who could make Manager Gu turn against his beloved fiancée.
Jiang Tingrou giggled and acted coy, “What, isn’t our nightly couple’s cardio enough?”
She looked adorably playful when she smiled. Gu Xiao sighed again and helplessly patted her head.
Despite what was said, the next day, Jiang Tingrou still accompanied Gu Xiao for a morning run.
Unfortunately, she collapsed after only a few hundred meters.
Gu Xiao was worried, but he had an urgent shareholders’ meeting to attend.
True to her reputation as a capable Butler, Wu Man rushed over as soon as she got the news. She helped the unconscious Jiang Tingrou up and said briskly, “Manager Gu, please go to your meeting. I’ll take Miss Jiang to the hospital.”
What was supposed to be the most relaxing time of the day turned into a farce. Gu Xiao rubbed his brow tiredly and got into the car to head to the company.
Wu Man didn’t actually take Jiang Tingrou to the hospital; she just helped her back to her bedroom and called the Family Doctor to come.
After examining Jiang Tingrou, the Family Doctor told Wu Man, “Miss Jiang is currently malnourished and has low blood sugar. If this continues, it will only get worse.”
Wu Man nodded, “Thank you. I’ll let Miss Jiang know when she wakes up.”
However, when Jiang Tingrou woke up, Wu Man simply said, “The doctor said it’s nothing serious, just advised you not to diet anymore.”
Jiang Tingrou was displeased, “What kind of useless doctor is that? I eat plenty every meal, I’m not dieting at all.”
“Then maybe you just haven’t run in a long time and got exhausted.” Wu Man tucked her in, “Miss Jiang, rest a bit more.”
After Jiang Tingrou fell asleep, Wu Man came to my small room.
She looked at the bandage on my leg and said quietly, “You’re ruthless too.”
I smiled faintly, “The ruse of self-injury may be old-fashioned, but it always works.”
Wu Man pondered, “Gu Xiao might think Jiang Tingrou is a bit much, but he’d never turn against his fiancée because of it.
“After all, to people like them, people like us are just ants.”
“So what if we’re ants?” I smiled. “Wu Man, do you remember the ancient saying our elder sister taught us in our first class?”
Wu Man fell into thought, and her eyes flickered.
I knew she remembered.
In that shabby little classroom, our eighteen-year-old elder sister led us in reading the chalk words on the blackboard:
“A thousand-mile dike can collapse due to an ant hole.”
