Chapter 9

I had Xue Lele stay with me for one more night.

As a young girl, she was truly terrified; she didn’t even dare to glance toward that other apartment.

Ever since that day, it was as if that family had been struck by a streak of incredible luck.

The Old Woman’s son received a promotion and a raise, the daughter-in-law landed several big orders at the beauty salon, and even the Old Woman herself found money on the ground whenever she went out for groceries.

The whole family was constantly beaming with joy.

Since their luck improved, they became even more insufferable and arrogant.

That Little Brat, whom the family doted on like the apple of their eye, had already bullied several little girls in the neighborhood until they cried.

Beyond that, he frequently tormented the local stray cats and dogs and wiped his snot on the elevator buttons.

It was absolutely disgusting.

The family hadn’t moved far; they had simply moved to the floor above.

Because of their outrageous behavior, a single girl had moved out just last month, and they were now living in her old unit.

That girl had also been one of the victims of their life‑borrowing.

Meanwhile, Xue Lele and the guy from Unit 1103 took advantage of the family’s distraction to move out ahead of schedule.

Before she left, Xue Lele asked if I wanted to move with her.

I told her there was no need. As one of the Living Dead, I was like a person with bare feet who didn’t fear those wearing shoes-I had nothing left to lose.

When the weekend arrived, I specifically chose to head out at midnight.

I didn’t go anywhere else; I headed straight for the local cemetery and some of the more unsavory mass graves.

Basically, I went wherever the fortune was foul.

Since they loved stealing people’s luck so much, I’d let them have their fill!

I could already see unclean things, so making myself a magnet for misfortune was incredibly easy.

For the next few days, I slept during the day and wandered around at night. By sticking to these “filthy places,” I didn’t even run into any bad people.

I searched online for local crime scenes and murder sites, mapped out a route, and visited them one by one like tourist attractions.

Coincidentally, a dismemberment case had recently occurred nearby, so I spent my free time hanging around there.

Within a few days, that family stopped laughing.

Xue Lele sent me a WeChat message saying she had seen that damned Old Woman while working at the hospital.

[Cheng Xin! You have no idea! She was wailing so loudly. I don’t know how she managed it, but she had a nasty fall and completely shattered her kneecap!]

[I feel so bad for my colleague, though. She was responsible for that bed during the night shift. The Old Woman got greedy and wanted some grapes, but instead of calling for help, she tried to get them herself and fell. Now she’s blaming my colleague for negligence and making a huge scene!]

[And do you know why she fell over some grapes? She was stealing someone else’s!]

[The other patient’s family bought them and left them on the bedside table. She saw them, got a craving, and tried to grab them without asking! They were a whole bed’s distance away! Hmph, she deserved that fall!]

Below the text, she sent a “serves you right” meme.

I told her about my recent “achievements,” and she was incredibly excited.

[You can do that? Why didn’t you say so earlier? I want to go with you!]

[You’ve already moved out, so stay out of it. You don’t want to get tainted by that family’s filth again.]

After chatting further, I learned that Xue Lele had also been a victim of their life‑borrowing when she first moved in.

At the time, she was just starting her internship at the hospital and didn’t have the money to move. The landlord refused to refund her deposit.

She had thought about confronting them, but the family threatened to go to the hospital and cause trouble for her. With no other choice, she had to swallow her resentment.

Now that she had finally moved out, she felt like the air was much fresher.

[I have a blood feud with that family! Honestly, I liked that apartment, and I wouldn’t have moved if it weren’t for them. The landlord still won’t give me my deposit back.]

[So you have to tell me everything about their karma!!! You have no idea how happy I was to see that Old Woman in the hospital!]

I quickly agreed, fearing she would bombard me with memes again.

Inside was a note: [Three years of your life have been borrowed. If you pass this on or drop...
