Chapter 8
Chapter 8
There are eight units on our floor, and that family happened to be right in the middle. Aside from Xue Lele, the big guy in 1103, and me, the other four units were occupied by families with children.
Everyone was furious upon hearing that someone had turned a unit here into an Ashes Room.
The other four families had purchased their apartments; it wasn’t like they could just pack up and move whenever they wanted.
One after another, they demanded that property management resolve the issue.
I advised Xue Lele and the big guy from 1103 to move out first. This kind of place really wasn’t suitable for living.
Xue Lele, being a young girl, was terrified and immediately stated she would move to her friend’s place tonight.
Just then, that family of freaks came running back.
“Moving? What do you mean, move?! We didn’t use your apartments!”
“Exactly! If you move out, what if people start thinking the building is haunted? Won’t my property value plummet?”
The Old Woman and her son blocked the elevator doors, refusing to let anyone leave.
The big guy from 1103 reached his breaking point.
“Ever since I moved in, you freaks have been causing trouble every single day!
“And now you’re trying to tell me I can’t move?”
The Old Woman played the age card. Seeing the big guy’s fierce, intimidating expression, she immediately began wailing.
“What are you doing?! Are you trying to hit an old woman?! There’s no justice! You’re bullying the elderly!”
“If it weren’t for the mess you’ve caused, would we even need to move?!”
Everyone was livid.
The Old Woman didn’t care; she simply lay down in front of the elevator doors, howling as if she were at a funeral.
“I don’t care! None of you are allowed to move! If you dare to leave, I’ll jump off the building today! I’ll make sure none of you have a moment of peace!”
Property management kept trying to persuade them, but the two of them were clearly acting like total scoundrels.
Even though the guy from 1103 was built like a tank, he had no way to deal with such shameless thugs.
I looked at the Old Woman lying on the ground and spoke up to expose her.
“I don’t think you’re worried about property values. I think you’re trying to use all of us for luck‑borrowing.”
Hearing my words, the Old Woman, who had been mid-wail, visibly paused.
She glared at me with her venomous, triangular eyes.
“Bah! You brat, what kind of nonsense are you spewing?
“It’s my own house! What’s wrong with putting my own ancestors in it?
“luck‑borrowing? I don’t know what you’re talking about!”
Heh, it would be strange if she didn’t know.
I had been wondering why this family of freaks was willing to give up a whole apartment just for this.
It turned out they were treating everyone on this floor as suckers!
That was likely the Old Woman’s plan all along.
She wanted to siphon the fortune of every resident on this floor and transfer it to her own family.
Each of her moves was more poisonous than the last.
Her family would certainly prosper and flourish after this!
I hadn’t thought of it initially, but then I noticed a red string tied around the Old Woman’s wrist – and her son was wearing one too!
This was a way to guide the ancestors, ensuring they knew where to bestow their protection!
This family was thinking of nothing but underhanded, occult tricks.
And they were the kind of tricks that were impossible for the authorities to regulate.
Unfortunately for them, they had hit a steel wall!
Heh, I’m no pushover.
When the others heard that this family was planning on luck‑borrowing, they grew even angrier, wishing they could just give these scoundrels a good thrashing.
But who actually dared to throw a punch?
Everyone had parents and children to look after. Even a single guy like the one from 1103 didn’t dare to act recklessly.
If you use violence, you lose the moral high ground!
Everyone was fuming but didn’t dare speak out, their faces full of frustration.
Property management continued to play the mediator, claiming they would definitely handle the negotiations tomorrow.
The Old Woman’s family walked away with smug, gloating smiles, as if they had just won a great battle.
As they left, their expressions clearly said: What are you going to do about it?

Inside was a note: [Three years of your life have been borrowed. If you pass this on or drop...
