Chapter 5
Chapter 5
That evening, the entire family came over, furiously pounding on my door.
“You wretched girl! What did you put in that fried chicken? Why has my grandson been saying he’s seeing ghosts ever since he ate it?”
The Old Woman’s voice shrieked from the hallway, her curses echoing through the building.
The whole family joined in, hurling insults at me.
None of the neighbors dared to open their doors to look. When I first moved in, I had added a young girl living nearby on WeChat. Right now, she was messaging me, asking if she should call the police for me.
I replied, telling her it wasn’t necessary for the time being.
I wasn’t stupid enough to open the door. Instead, I started mocking them from the safety of my apartment.
“Oh! So the whole family of thieves has finally come out into the light? I was wondering where my fried chicken went. Turns out the old thief stole it to feed the little thief!”
Hearing me speak, the Old Woman’s cursing grew even more frenzied. Through the peephole, I could see her spitting everywhere as she screamed.
“You little bitch! You won’t even spare a child? If anything happens to my precious grandson, I’ll make you pay!”
Standing beside her, the Little Brat’s father was also shouting abuse. “A woman living alone like this-who knows what kind of shady business she’s doing in there! You dare harm my son? I’m calling the police to drag you away right now!”
“She’s probably too scared to open the door because she’s hosting ‘clients’ inside!” his wife added, chiming in maliciously.
They cursed and hammered on the door in unison. This family really was a collection of the worst kinds of people.
“A pack of thieves living together, going around trying to do life-borrowing on a young girl… If you ask me, your whole family is destined for short lives!” I shouted back. “Tonight, that fever is going to burn your precious grandson’s brain into mush!”
Hearing me curse her grandson, the Old Woman was so livid she started jumping up and down in the hallway.
“Ooh, is that an old toad hopping around out there? What’s that sound?”
My words made Xue Lele, who was following the drama from her own place, burst out laughing. She had been listening intently to the exchange.
[Sister! You’re amazing! You’re my hero! Finally, someone can put this family of creeps in their place!] she messaged me.
I sent back a “stay calm” emoji.
After about ten minutes, the shouting outside gradually began to die down.

After the Neighbor Borrowed My Life
